2024 Padres Season

At the game last night and there is no way the Padres would have won this game if this was last years team. Despite the injuries, despite failing to get Joey Meneses out for the first 3 runs the Nat's scored with 2 outs, despite Delos Santos failure to hold it to 1 run down in the 10th, despite Peraltas failure to score the tieing run from 3rd with 1 out in the 10th, and despite Harvey throwing gas to an obviously injured Profar - it was an epic win! My wife and I were at the Higashioka HR walk off and the Cronenworth HR walk off, but we had been hitting the ball right at the Nat's defenders all night except for the inning we scored 3 runs to take the lead. It looked grim but so happy for Profar after he got pitched high and tight and landed hard on his rear end/back before he got up, fought off that 3rd strike, and stroked that ground rule double that bounced over the right field fence. It was beautiful!
The vibes on this team are for real. Despite the talent of last years team, it was get behind in the late innings and give up. Get healthy guys and get into the playoffs!

Let the high leverage relievers have a break...let our SP's get some wins on their stat sheet and help my heart and my sleep levels....that game ended late last night.

Well we almost had one!
At least Suarez barely even threw a few warmups before the DP ended the game and tomorrow is a travel day.

What are peoples thoughts for trade deadline adds. Im thinking that the bull pen might be the biggest need.
Going through an article on The Athletic they list possible available players. On that list is our old buddy Kirby Yates. The league is hitting .094 off his splitter this year, and he is on a one year deal for $4.5M, which SD would be on the hook for roughly $1.5M.
And depending on how the NYM go through the summer, maybe Jake Diekman? Also owed $4M for the season, and would be about $1.3M add for the end of the season.

What's the outlook for Eguy Rosario?
Plays all over diamond( 3B, 2B, OF?), huge arm. Is he a good defender anywhere? Does he have speed?
At just 24, kid looks like he can play a little bit. With both Profar and Kim being FA this winter, does Eguy fill one of the voids?( Obviously if there is money to be spent, Profar is where to spend it)
Just wondering what next year's infield looks like? Machado at 3B.....then it's anyone's guess! Do you move Bogaerts back to SS? Or perhaps Jake? Does Bogaerts go to 1B, with Arraez taking 2B? Or is it going to be a daily carousel- with the left out infielder DH'ing?

When do we see Ornelas in RF? Johnson isn't a prospect. Hell, I'd rather see Cal Mitchell out there.

Ornelas has been a streaky player most of his career (he is on a hot streak at present) but with little power, not much speed and adequate at best defense in the outfield. Johnson, although also not a prospect, has played in the majors before, is a switch hitter, has speed and plays a very good defense; if we needed his hitting in the line-up, probably would have brought up Ornelas first. I see Ornelas replacing an equally challenged defensive player in Peralta. When Bogaerts comes back, likely see Peralta released or Johnson optioned back to El Paso; not sure there is room for Ornelas at that point unless they also send down Rosario again. Rosario is a much better prospect than Ornelas and could be an interesting trade chip down the line or could find a spot on next years team if we don't resign Kim. Padres would like to keep a strong defensive infield so it might be up to Kim to take a little less money if he doesn't put up better offensive numbers in the second half.
I think they like Mitchell but want to see how he does for an entire season; he is still young. Padres don't have a lot of major league ready OFs in the system so Mitchell could get a very long look next year and might even be put on the 40 man this winter.

So when Xander comes back in 7-10 days where does he play?
Who gets sent down?
Can Jake or Solano play RF?
Gonna suck to have one of Machado,Arraez,Cronenworth or Bogaerts on the bench with Bryce Johnson playing RF
I guess we could put Kim at 3B and X back at SS for a while?
Good problem to have?

If he's healthy and hitting I think Bogaerts goes right back to being the everyday guy at 2B. Arraez becomes the primary DH with other guys rotating through as needed. Solano could platoon with Jake or Arraez while also being a valuable bench bat and utility guy. Rosario is reportedly working on learning to play in the outfield. They could send him down to get game reps.
