2023 offseason

Could be a target for AJP ...as Rays expected to trade some of their arb $$ guys..
Yandy Díaz is also rumored as a possible move
AJP always has a door and phone line open to Rays..
Per Mlbtraderumors... Pads and Stros were also in on Choi..
Choi’s projected $4.5MM salary certainly played a role in his move to Pittsburgh, and the Rays were known to be talking to more than just the Pirates about the first baseman. Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Padres and Astros also had some interest, with Houston revisiting their interest in Choi from prior to the trade deadline

I shudder to think about what SD would have to give up to get Arozarena from TB. He is controllable until the end of the 2026 season, so you would think that a lot of teams would be in on him, and our system is not exactly the envy of the MLs anymore.

Not long ago this was our off season....boy have things changed.
We're so spoiled with big trades/signings it's like...."when is something gonna happen already?" now.

Quote from MrPadre19 on November 14, 2022, 7:41 amYandy Diaz is a 1b/DH type who had 33 doubles last season and a .401 OBP.
Lead him off in front of Soto/Tatis/Machado?
Yes please

27 … 4 years control … above average ML player … WHEW! … he should cost a ton from some team (not the Padres).

Quote from Henry Silvestre on November 14, 2022, 7:57 amTyler Glasnow how ya'll feel abut Glasnow?... I mean he makes DeGroom look healthy.. but dude is an absolute BEAST when he pitches...
For Rays the $5mil for 23 aint a big deal.. BUT the $25;mil for 2024 is... could we buy a bit low on him?... with like $80 mil dropping off in 2024... we could absorb and hope for 20+ starts

Not sure that is where I would put $5.4MM AND give up the prospects / players to get him out of TB. He had a 3.8 WAR last year and has two years control …

Way to much a gamble on health that has never been there at any point in Glasnow’s career. One season at 111 innings but otherwise struggle to hit 60 innings. Padres would likely end up paying for him to be on the IL and still need to pay a replacement.
With 2 open SP slots … and little minor league ML ready depth .. need to target arms that they have confidence they will go to the post for every start. No expensive health gambles.

I guess we are getting withdrawal symptoms.
Did hear Preller say that little should happen until the Winter Meetings. Still likely some more minor tinkering until then again this is Preller … so something could come out of the shadows.

Quote from Henry Silvestre on November 14, 2022, 8:15 amI could see the Rays going bare bones rebuild for 2 or 3 seasons... NYY/Bos/Jays and Orioles all seem in a better place (Bos can spend their way there) vs Rays atm.. and Rays can quickly turn it around with a couple of huge packages for their players.. Margot to the Marlins could net them one of their young arms.. +++ for example and Rays could be back in 2024 or 2025 with a much younger > team in what looks like a "blood bath' of a Division for 2023
