Forget Joc.. not giving up a 2nd and 4th (penalty for over CBT tax x2 ) for signing him..and $19,65 mil QO he might be crazy not accepting that
This is crazy….many on this list are not close to worth nearly $20 mil.
There goes more than half of my contest guesses….no way we sign Eovaldi,Perez or Joc now.

That seems like a good contract for us especially if he is the closer in 24.

Yeah that seems like a solid move. It seems like they could have waited 5 minutes to get all the details instead of putting it out piece by piece. I hate the that the race to be first has made that the norm.

If they move Hader (expected $13.4MM ARB) and give the closer slot to Suarez … gain about $4.2MM in CBT space.
At his cost and only one year control will not get a blue chip ML return BUT could yield a top prospect or a good ML piece at a lower cost.
Key is which team needs that type of closer add … probably a legit contender with a hole at the closer slot. NYY? TOR? BALT? TEX? SEA? … ATL? PHIL? STL?

Or we ride with the best 8th/9th situation in the MLB for 2023... then QO Hader and save $30 mil in our BP for 2024 (Hader + Garcia + Pomz all drop off in 2024).. with CBT set at $237 for 2024..say we go to $250.. in 2023.. could actually stay under to reset in 24.. with such savings..commitments for 2024 atm are only $98 mil (including Suarez) + arb...
Either way great keep by AJP and Pads...

Wonder if AJP moves Hader now?.. if he can get one of the SP from Marlins straight up for Hader .. why not?
Keep telling you guys there is no way AJ is paying $14 million for a closer( absolutely shocked he's paying $9 million for Suarez!) so this really comes as no surprise.
I'm sure someone will give us something in return for Hader. Gotta start rebuilding our farm.

Under the radar … Padres added Pedro Avila to the 40 man today. I guess he would have been a minor league FA without that move so this keeps him a Padre.
