Martinez opts out (doesn’t opt in) … think he gets a $1.5MM buyout.

Negotiation with the Padres likely will continue … but he gets to field some open market offers that may (or may not) make the Padres position appealing.

Suarez back is huge.. he takes over in 24 as closer.. elite set up man in 2023

Morosi adds that Suarez’s deal is expected to be one of the strongest for a non-closing reliever in MLB history. Terms remain unclear, but Morosi indicates a five-year pact could be on the table.

That seems a little extreme for a 32 year old, one year of success in the ML. Yikes?

Big $$ thinking 5/55 ?

Wonder if AJP moves Hader now?.. if he can get one of the SP from Marlins straight up for Hader .. why not?

Per Morosi (if a real account) the deal could be one of the largest for a non-closer … maybe 5 years. Hard to believe … does clearly suggests Hader is not returning in 2024 and MAYBE trading Hader is being considered.

I could see Suarez as the RH closer and, if they are high on Pomeranz’s full return, Pomeranz as the LH closer. Plus Castillo, Hill, Morejon, Groome, and maybe Cosgrove sit as LH support. Could be an interesting gamble to maybe slightly lower the CBT salaries (if Suarez lower than Hader) but more significantly potentially get a major (lower cost) add for Hader.

Side: with the new (and ill concieved) TWITTER rules … apparently spoof accounts are running rampant. So, will need some confirmation.

Marlins are more than a year away from contending…the last thing they need is an expensive Closer.

They want/need  offense.

Austin Adams cleared waivers and elected FA.

5 yrs $46 mil.. opt out after 3
