2023 offseason
Quote from Henry Silvestre on November 6, 2022, 4:42 amWatching Yordan Valdez struggle .194 BA in the WS ..YET 3 big Bombs and 14 RBIs.. made me think of GALLO.. seems like the type of bat that can change a game or series with one swing.. I mean he struggled and still hit 19 bombs in 2022.. while playing GG D... He has 1B/LF and 3B experience.. so maybe not a 162 game starter BUT a valuable DH.. PH.. LF/1B 400 ABs type with a "postseason' hero type of potential...
Sign Joc 3/25.. Gallo 1/6.. Drury 3/21.. vs (Bell 3/51 or others)... the 3 bats will go further and there is more "danger/HR pop" for a postseason series in them vs ONE Bell ..just saying

Quote from fenn68 on November 6, 2022, 6:10 amNov 10 is the first critical off season date: FA can sign ... Options are taken or declined ... QO are made.
Nov 15 the 40 man roster for Rule 5 is set
Nov 18 non-tenders announced
So by then should have a full landscape of the roster and FA market.
Other than a couple of early bird signings (trades) ... most will start building into the Winter Meetings. Players and teams have to work for the best deal ... that takes some time to work through.

Quote from fenn68 on November 6, 2022, 6:17 amAfter looking at the Top 30 from the NY Post and the projected salaries ... can't wait for MLBTradeRumors Top 50 and their projections. Maybe me being cheap ... but the salary projections in the Post seemed higher that I was expecting.
If that is the current thinking ... have to think some of the better players not in the top 30 will be carried up to larger contracts to fill the void between the top and and the masses ... all of that should drag out the FA signing somewhat.

That or the 15 or so teams that spend will run out of $$ and some of the top 30 guys will become affordable options

Quote from Henry Silvestre on November 6, 2022, 7:16 amSENGA 5/65 seems low.. but man oh man we get that one at that price 2023-2027 all of the sudden (Joe/Senga) looks ok from a BASE perspective

Quote from Jeremy Hill on November 6, 2022, 10:41 amIf I were AJ I think I would be calling a couple teams about trading for potential non-tenders or players with options that might be declined. The first would be the Brewers. Renfroe and Wong are at the very least strong platoon players. You could also maybe look at Hiura or Tellez since they're semi redundant. Bringing back Drury with one of the latter 3 would give us a very strong platoon at 1B or 2B. I don't think any of them would cost much to acquire.
I would also maybe look at Ji-Man Choi, Kyle Farmer and AJ Pollock. Chase pitching in free agency and see if you can fill out the lineup and strengthen the bench with minor moves.

Voit from Nats surely gets non-tender (8.2 mil proj) and he actually hit better in SD vs Wash.. with Soto and Tatis and a deeper lineup he should thrive in a more relaxed #6 or 7th spot in the lineup... a P Contreras (40man) for Voit followed by a 3/12 type deal ($4per) would be solid
Wouldn't mind a Lauer reunion either..

Interesting ..Padres #3.. Dodgers #5.. hmm
He also says Suarez and Martinez will be back.
Does he know something we don’t or not know something we do?

Would be ironic if Voit comes back to SD just in time to win the World Series.
Eric Hosmer who!?
