Given the Padres history of keeping everything close to the vest … doubt they are leaking anything except that they are in negotiation. Machado’s agent (or someone in that sphere) could be leaking the low side … not necessarily for this negotiation but to keep a relatonship going with the reporter. Not a worry at this point … Padres just set an initial low offer (and most do in negotiaton) and will go up while Machado’s side stats with the high side to set “limits” … then start moving dollars, years, opt outs, vesting, incentives, “perks” around to reach a settlement. Both sides want negotiation flexibility.

No slam dunk this will get done since Machado (if he has a MVP type season) in this market has a legit case for a 10 year / $350MM deal and that COULD cross the Padre line given the other commitments coupled with an Ohtani run and runs that the Korean / Japanese FA next winter.

I think 41 yr old Machado will still be > than our DH (combined #'s for 2022) and we made it to within 3 games of the WS.. a lot better

Roster Resource now has them just over 273 with the Machado deal. That doesn't include any incentives. They aren't getting under without shedding a decent amount.
