We need at least two of the "younger" guys to step up.

Morejon,Weathers,Honeywell,Groome,Baez.

It would be fantastic if we could count on two of these guys to be our #4-#5's after 2023.

Of course we would have to re-sign Honeywell.

I'd be happy with one claiming 1/6

Assuming Joe and Nick are 2/6.. that would give us 3/6 heading into 2024.. with Others Wolf/Mazur and maybe one of the ones expected now to take a little longer.. making it a manageable 2 open spots (one of which could be Yu).. The further we go 25 Lizarraga/Williams/others.. 26 Lesko/Snelling/Leija.. the better arms get .. so yeah +1 good +2 internal arms claiming spots for 24 during 2023 would be awesome

Given Honeywell was signed with less than one year ML service time … I think the Padres have six years control as long as he is on the 40 man roster.

I am almost 💯 if Honeywell shows anything in ST he will be on the 40..and if healthy on 26..without options..the slightest nick or discomfort will be 10-15 day IL.. when there is a will there is a way to keep talent like Honeywell in a Padres uniform for 1/2 a decade

Any word on Joey Cantillo from Cleveland? Is he due in camp or still recovering from TJ?

And how about the young pitcher from Georgia we sent to Tampa for Snell? Is he also recovering from TJ?

Will Patino be in the rotation in Tampa?

And where is Joey Ross? Still in DC?

And where will Susana be in the DC system?

I assume Quantril will be top 3 in Cleveland ( sorry, can't say Guardians.....) rotation?

Cantillo is on Cleveland’s 40 and should be in camp … he did pitch in 2022 and did well in AA after basically missing a few years due to TJ.

Cole Wilcox was the other pitcher in the Snell deal … when on the mound outstanding but in 2021 and 2022 ended up on the 60 day IL so has barely pitched with the highest level A ball.

Patino who was the main pitcher in the Snell deal has just not panned out and looks to be on the bubble going back to AAA. Basically a poor 2022 in both ML and AAA.

Joe Ross had TJ last May … so don’t expect much plus I think he is a FA.

Susana at 19 will probably be in Low A to start 2023.

There was an article on The Athletic about Cantillo the other day. The gist of it was that he's the latest pitching prospect to make huge velocity gains working with Cleveland's development staff. It said his fastball is sitting 92-95 now and topping out at 97. He used to struggle to hit 90.

Some Pitchers just tick up by tweaking delivery.. Weathers was 90-91 and now he is 95-96 and hits 97/8.. Lauer was 91-2 and now is 95-96 and hits 97..  not just Indian Pitchers .. (Guardians I mean).. But yeah some orgs tend to have very good development staffs... I think San Diego has taken a huge step to being one of those and we starting to see it ..

When was the last time the owner of a team in the same division took time to comment on another and give his opinion ?

Somehow I get the feeling Peter Seidler would not do that

This take is basically what everyone other than a few owners believe….except maybe dodger fans

Apparently, Wacha is really proud of himself. Looking for a 2 year deal for $30M. No wonder he hasnt signed yet. A little out of perspective if you ask me for a guy who is barely a #4 SP, and cant be counted on for more than 120 innings this season.

Come down to reality, and sign a two year deal around $8-10M, and maybe you can land in SD and get yourself a ring.
