2023 offseason

We are all waiting for a SP so C/1B/DH Tyler Stephenson going to he the trade that AJP pulls off... just wait and see

I find it hard to believe AJ would add $25 mil for one year of an injury risk SP when we still have Manny and Soto to deal with plus a "chance" at Ohtani.

Seems unnecessarily risky and counter productive.

Use that $ instead on Yu if he stays healthy or put it towards Nola next off season...or another "healthy" SP you can lock up for 2-4 seasons.

It's the "dead" period before spring training so I thought I'd just throw it out there.  Don't think it will happen either but with the Rays just extending Springs (who I really liked) who knows what lurks in the mind of Preller?

Doing this off the top of my head but really have to think the AAV implications and increase penalty cost.

Adding Glasnow at $5MM/$25MM would be an AAV plus of $15MM … almost all in the next tier at a penalty at 90+%.

If TB took Pomeranz that would be $8,5 of AAV ($10MM salary) for 2023.

At that point Padre AAV would still be going up $6.5MM and still in the penalty zone for 2023 (who know about 2024).

To offset that TB would have to pay in 2023 $6.5MM (if they can given Glasnow is only making $5MM) … so effectively they would be saving $5MM on Glasnow but paying $10MM Pomeranz salary and $6.5MM buy down on Pomeranz or plus $11.5MM in 2023 … don’t see that as appealing for them. That does not even address whatever that means for 2024 as the Padres as the Padres have to address Manny, Soto, Darvish, Snell, Cruz, Lugo, Martinez (maybe) and a depleted bullpen post Hader and Garcia.

All this for a lot of IFs on a perpetually injured SP.

Hard pass. Actually TB is better off trying to rebuild Glasnow’s value (for only $5MM in 2023) while contending and try to palm him off to someone next winter (or trade deadline if out of it in 2023).

You might want to take a look at his home/road splits. Its similar for his ML career, but 2022 was a huge difference.

Home - .395 BA, .449 OBP, .593 SLG.

Away - .247 BA, .289 OBP, .377 SLG.

For what you would have to trade away to get Stephenson out of CIN, better off spending those prospects on someone that can hit at Petco or more importantly, an additional SP.

Is that Ethan Salas in the middle.. if so dude is already meshing with Musgrove and Co.. good to see

Musgrove is actually the teammate they wanted us to believe Hosmer was.

These workouts are pretty unheard off in MLB..lots of peeps workout with one or 2 guys (ie Capemter + Grish last offseason) but Joe has started something special man.. 20-30 guys all working out together in the offseason is huge for Chemistry and acxountability... love Campusano, Weathers, Avila and Khner in the workouts as well as the others..  Joe really wants a WS in SD Love it ❤️!
