2023 offseason
Quote from Henry Silvestre on January 21, 2023, 6:40 amQuote from 3fingersplit on January 20, 2023, 10:19 pmI had to laugh after reading some of the Red Sox fan forums...they actually think that Houck for Kim straight up is a big overpay on their part much less including their number one prospect Tristan Casas in the deal. If that was really the ask by AJ...I love it, he has a high regard for Kim and that trade would be the same as getting Tatis from the White Sox.
No way in hell the Red Sox would do that but it had the fans wound up and was really funny to read the comments.
Gotta love baseball
Yup they want Kim for Houck.. Casas is the price... I like it!

Quote from arasc731 on January 22, 2023, 7:25 amWhy not trade with Miami and try to go after Sixto Sanchez, since he is coming off an injury and shouldn't be too costly at all since they are well stacked on their roster.
The risk is a bit high, but the return might be very high as well.

Good chance Preller has asked about him during the trade discussions with MIA but doubt MIA needs to trade him on the cheap.
A significant injury risk but has a MiL option … 5 years control … at league minimum … so, MIA may look at him and see the same upside and, since he costs little, will keep him for that upside to show. If he does show well in ST/early Mil season, he could command a better return at the trade deadline.
If trading for him … not going to offer too much now given that risk level … so probably a stalemate between buyer and seller.

Miami needs 2 or 3 BP arms could be a partner ..not necessarily for SP either (aka Cooper/Pomz headlining the trade)..but could also be extended to include a SP like Sixto ..
With all this said ..Wait to see a trade none of us saw coming cause AJP is good at that..

Quote from BoosterSD on January 23, 2023, 11:57 amWith the place that the roster is in at the moment, and still needing to make a move to make room for Cruz, I would normally not suggest a player being DFA'd as an option for SD.
With that being said, I am a little intrigued by Jon Singleton. Was out of baseball for awhile, and signed on with MIL last season. He did not play in the ML at all, but put up a decent line in AAA, his BA was not very good, but the OPB and SLG were nice, including 22 doubles, 2 triples, and 24 HRs. He is LHH and pretty much only 1B/DH and 31 years old.
With limited position flexibility, would offer any upside over that of Batten or Dixon?

Forgot all about this guy....did he go overseas to play or was he completely out of baseball for the last 5 years?

They DFA Poppen (and he cleared waivers) to make room for Cruz.
At 31 this guy does not have much to offer. Would not put him on the 40 man … would not sign him as a MiL make good contract.

I had forgot about him as well. He had a season or two in Mexico after a long break from baseball in the States, then played 2021 in Nashville in MIL AAA team.

Forgot about the Poppen move.
Was thinking it would be a long shot, the only thing he offers is OBP and some pop, not sure how the AAA park plays in Nashville compared to those on the western side of AAA parks. That is why I was wondering if he would offer some upside to that of either Batten or Dixon. Especially since Batten and Dixon are similar in that they are both RHH.
Either way, it would probably be a fringe move at best for SD.
