2023 offseason
Quote from fenn68 on January 20, 2023, 1:53 pmQuote from Randy Manese on January 20, 2023, 1:32 pmLooks like the Marlins gave up quite a lot for Arraez, so doubt that a secondary trade involving Kim is going to happen unless Arraez moves over to 1b. Didn't really want Lopez anyway - preferred Cabrera or Luzardo. Let's see what happens next.
At this point MIA is not trading Luzardo or Cabrera who become key to their SP. Figure Rogers and Garrett in a battle to replace Lopez with the loser being #6 and the heir apparent to Cueto’s slot or cover the first SP injury.
A lot of options on how they use Azzaez … LF/1B/DH his defense is bad everywhere but his bat is what they wanted. Now if you really don’t care about defense (and some don’t) he can return to 2B with Chisholm over to SS and Wendle becomes super utility.

There is our Nelson Cruz answer.... Poppen was DFAd and cleared... we keep him
Wasn't even reported.. lol
Glad he cleared since he does have some skills. Adds to the overstock of arms in AAA (going to be interesting to makes the AAA roster).
Maybe it is the time of the year (and status of other team rosters) but could be some marginal ML talent can squeak through waivers … the no MiL option clearly a factor.

Jazz is moving to CF...
Making it harder on your young pitchers seems not smart https://t.co/qjyFmIhG61

Jazz is moving to CF...
MIA has the potential to be a really bad defensive team.
INF of Cooper-Arraez-Wendle-Segura, OF of DeLaCruz-Chisholm-Garcia ... not great!

The Salas Family raised the Salas brothers right.. these kids are amazing and I can't wait to see both in the MLB
Scout on new Twins infield prospect Jose Saias: Elite makeup. Beyond his talent, has off the chart work ethic. Star potential. Marlins’ best offensive prospect.

Just a reminder that top Prospects don't always workout
While fans love the hype of prospects in trades, remember this:
In 2018, pitcher Justus Sheffield and third baseman Miguel Andujar were the New York #Yankees' prized No. 3 and No. 4 prospects in their organization.
They were designated for assignment on the same day Thursday— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) January 20, 2023

Reverse pitch com... sounds like huge time saver.. Nola says FB Yu says ok .. OR shakes him off and says curveball.. no need for seconds wasted on shaking him off 2 or 3 times..
Interesting, pitchers will be able to give signals to catchers this year too? That’s a big W https://t.co/Koh1eXotJ6 pic.twitter.com/NlWGMrC2wY

Quote from Randy Manese on January 20, 2023, 4:54 pmJust when I thought the Kim to Miami deal was dead, the Marlins move Chisholm to CF and intend to start Arraez at 2b! It will probably take most of spring training for the Marlins to realize how poor a defensive second baseman Arraez is (otherwise the Twins would have had him there on a regular basis!) and that will trigger another look to Kim, since the Marlins will still find themselves with pitching depth they can trade. Nothing to look for now but give it 6-8 weeks and let's see what develops.
By the way, Boston has uber prospect Marcelo Mayer out of San Diego as an up and coming shortstop who should be ready in another year or two who they can pair with Story. For that reason, don't think they'll give up that much for Kim unless they want to dump salary in preparation for 2024. For example, we would probably take Sale for Kim and a pitching prospect if Boston included lots of money in the deal. Sale is a real wildcard who could be very good or very bad and has possibly 2 more years after this year under control. Don't think that will happen, however.

They may be willing to deal some of their "lower end" surplus but not the Luzardo / Cabrera level ... and dealing Kim for less really does not fit.
Alcantara - Luzardo - Cabrera - Cueto - Rogers ... with probably Garrett #6/long and uber prospect Perez in AAA (and he is not getting dealt) is not that deep. Except for Cueto, that is a long control / low cost group to build on for years and in 2023 great coverage for injury.
Don't be surprised when MIA is clearly out of the wild card race ... they deal Cueto at the deadline but probably will not return in 2024 anyway.
Just spend the $7MM due to Kim on one of Andrus - Iglesias - Simmons.

Quote from 3fingersplit on January 20, 2023, 10:19 pmI had to laugh after reading some of the Red Sox fan forums...they actually think that Houck for Kim straight up is a big overpay on their part much less including their number one prospect Tristan Casas in the deal. If that was really the ask by AJ...I love it, he has a high regard for Kim and that trade would be the same as getting Tatis from the White Sox.
No way in hell the Red Sox would do that but it had the fans wound up and was really funny to read the comments.
Gotta love baseball 🙂
