Brito is an interesting pick-up ... had a good season in A+ (his best season and most inning pitched) as a RP ... always been a RP.
Before 2022 his control was just plain bad but made a major improvement in control and earned the heavier workload. No idea on his "stuff" but a real GB pitcher. See what AA does for him.
If it clicks ... maybe a shot in 2024 to replace Garcia or Crismatt's replacement if moved before 2024. Padres have a lot of "if it clicks" candidates for RHRP for the 2024 season.

Alfaro signs a minor league deal with BOST ... $2MM if he makes the roster with opt outs Jun1 and Jul1 if he does not.
Only Padre FA still unsigned: Profar and Adams.

Man, Profar and his agent really played that badly!
Still, I'd really like to see him back in Brown! If Kim or Pomeranz gets moved, AJ needs to make that call.

Not going to happen...he walked away from a fair contract and AJ won't offer him more and Profar won't take less than what he walked away from. He has already been replaced....the music is getting ready to stop and Profar doesn't have a chair....his time in San Diego is over

A couple of controlled arms that might be good pick ups at the deadline are A's Cole Irvin and/or Paul Blackburn..especially if we run into inning limit problems (Lugo/Morejon types)
A's have 4 to 6 SP prospects of various grades almost ready or ready in 2023.. so with Blackburn Arb 2 and Irvin starting arb 1 in 2024 as well as getting close to or over 30 (not in their timeline) could be made available.. Not the TOR types that make you greater in post season..BUT if Yu_Joe and Snell are healthy, the types that can get you there down the stretch..

So I am exploring the fangraphs page a little more, and went to the steamers 2023 projection page.
As a team, they are projecting for SD the following line. And they dont have any numbers for Cruz in their yet, since his signing is not official at this time.
2023 - BA-.248, OBP-.324, SLG-.414, with 207 HRs, 744 runs, and 88 SBs.
2022 - BA-.241, OBP-.318, SLG-.382, with 153 HRs, 705 runs, and 49 SBs.
That is a decent bump in BA and OBP, but a huge jump in SLG, HRs, runs, and stolen bases. They are projecting a huge year from Soto, and then obviously having Tatis for a majority of the season.
Of the 16 players projected to play in games this season for SD, only 4 players (Azocar-89, Batten-84, Schrock-84, and Engel-82) have a wRC+ below 100, and all other potential position players have a wRC+ of 104 or higher, with Soto at a wRC+ of 172 to lead the team.
Should be a fun year to watch SD at the plate this season. Feel bad for some pitching staffs that face SD this season......not really!! 😜😂

SD trades Kim to MIA for SP(s), and keeps Crone at 2B. Carpenter and Gurriel split 1B duties, and maybe DH with Cruz based on match ups.
Now, I know that Gurriel did not have a great regular season in 2022, and I am sure he is on his way out, age 39. But, if you look at his post season numbers, just for 2022, he might be a good pick up. In the 2022 post season, he had 50 PAs, he hit .350, .361 OBP, and .500 SLG, only struck out once, walked once, and hit 2 HRs and 1 double. All depends on the dollars he would want, if it is worth bringing him in.
We could have used that type of production in the playoffs last season.

Yuli for a $1mil deal is about all we can afford .. but Yuli/Carp at 1B (even with Kim here) and Yuli/Carp/Diaz at DH..with Carp seeing occasional 3B and LF as in a couple times a month.. could keep Cruz /Carp and Yuli fresh white allowing Kim/Crone and Manny a handful of days off each

Cruz was signed six days ago but not yet “official” and not added to the 40 man (also no player movement to make room on the 40).
How long can they stretch this out? 7 days?
