FWIW the Miami Marlins had a Tweet out with Kim in a Marlins jersey saying they had acquired him from the Padres…..then deleted it.

When last season ended the Padres had 14 position players including Sullivan, Dixon, Batten, Rosario, Azocar, and Campusano.
Preller made the big signing of Bogaerts but then quietly added some legit veteran pieces for support in Engel, Carpenter, and now Cruz likely bumping (when Tatis returns) the likes of Dixon, Batten, and Rosario.
A Campusano - Cruz - Carpenter - Engel - Azocar bench is pretty solid for a contender. Always could be better but this one should be good. Also, non-roster veterans in the wings are Severino (if Campusano falters) and Schrock (if need a LHH INF option).
Credit to Preller building a strong 13 man position player roster.

IF that was a legit tweet from the Marlins ... probably premature and some of the players had not been notified or a deal was really not final.
Wonder if Wendle would be part of the return package ... they had him penciled in at SS but he is not a SS (2B/3B) ... only 1 year control / 32 / and nearly a $6MM arb guess. Sort of balances the money for Kim. Padres could use him as the back-up INF ... LHH.
Guess that would work in getting one of MIA better SP.

Maybe it was a picture of Kim Ng and someone had the wrong caption? Just confused Kim for Kim?

Except the one I saw was put out by the Miami Marlins....not a dude named Ivan.
Still probably BS but I wouldn't have mentioned it if it wasn't from the Team...or "appeared" to be from the team.

I tracked down the original source. It was a known Padres troll who changed his profile picture to the Marlins logo. It wasn't the actual Marlins.

I still wouldn't be too surprised if it came true.
The Marlins are trading a SP or even two.
While just about every contender could use one not everyone has major league pieces to trade like Kim.
I hope we keep him but as I've said before I'd rather feel better about our rotation for this year and beyond and i doubt we can get one of their SP's and keep Kim so.....

Time to shift the discussion t0 the 13 man pitching staff under the assumption of no additional pitchers being brought on.
13 pitchers on the active roster … but 25 pitchers on the 40 man … some on the bubble types without minor league options and no clear cut 6th starter.
There are 11 “probable” for the final 13: Darvish; Musgrove; Snell; Martinez; Lugo; Hader; Suarez; Pomeranz; Garcia; Hill; Wilson; (all are potential trade chips)
The remaking 2 come out of:
4 players without minor league options: Crismatt; Lopez; Poppin; Honeywell (trade chips, DFA candidates, Lopez returned to original club as a Rule 5)
10 that could be optioned: Morejon; Groome; Weathers; Avila; Knehr; Filipe; Baez; Castillo; Cosgrove; Kerr (all trade chips … but no need unless a good return.

Very unlikely all 4 out of option pitchers make the final 13 … so no real issue with 40 man.
Hard to see any combo of these pitchers can be manipulated to get a better SP. However, to the extent there has to be some culling of the arms … some deals (not necessarily the worst of the group) could be made for “prospects” that hold some future value.
Padres have to keep on eye on 2023 “insurance” and maintain some in-house coverage for potential 2024 departures. Crismatt with ML experience / success would seem to be in the crosshairs if there are others who win the final 2 slots.
Also, don’t immediately rule out some non-roster arm sneaking in … either at the end of ST or early in the season (Think Teheran, Stammen, M.Lugo, Espinosa, Font, others) … which would cause a DFA if the 13 man was filled with arms without options.
Good chance someone will go when the officially add Cruz (guessed Poppin) … but ST should be quite a battle among those arms. Injuries will play into this scenario since pitchers notoriously get injuries in ST. Preller has ST to act and re-act before making the calls. Maybe become the most interesting battles to watch in ST.
