2023 offseason

Have a feeling Nellie going to be Pujols 2022 like in 2023.. and could see him back in 2024 if he is within 15 to 20 HRs of 500..before becoming a Padres Coach at the MLB level..perhaps our hitting coach or a minor league manager

The only way I thought a Cruz signing made since was if it was really cheap. 1m certainly qualifies. We should know pretty quickly if getting his eye fixed helped or if father time finally caught up to him. Maybe he can be our version of Pujols from the past few seasons. Not a bad gamble at the price.

Can you please just say Cruz and or prospects instead of Nellie and specs?

At $1MM cannot go wrong … only a little over the league minimum so not really much of an incremental add for the 26th man.

Cruz is probably not a money focused at his age and with this career … so getting a real shot at the playoffs / World Series was probably a motivator even if he had some “better” offers.

Hope he still has something left … at a minimum a good platoon with Carpenter and likely better than the in-house alternatives.

Really well respected with the Latin players and should (could) be a stabilizing influence on Tatis. Probably good for Soto too.

Cruz has had an eye issue since ‘21 which he says effected his ability to read pitches. His day/night splits since:

Day: .840 OPS

Night: .676 OPS

Wonder if he just saw the ball better during the day. Career splits are essentially even, so it’s abnormal

With his eye issue behind him could he rebound to prior great levels.. we can't be greedy but a Pujols 2022 type yr for $1 mil would be terrific..

To me at $1mil just having him on the bench and around the team he has already earned that $$ so everything he does from now on at the plate is just gravy..

Probable everyday lineup after 4/20..with either a RHB power or LHB power off the bench.. Bench looks so much better with one of Carp/Cruz in it..

Hard not to get excited about this offense right now. Imagine if Grish can work out his issues, too? Wow.

Now the Dodgers have traded for the Marlins shortstop?

So the Marlins  have added a SP when they have 7 already and traded their shortstop when they don’t have one.

They may want to move Jazz to SS but then they need a 2b.

These two deals (Cueto and Rojas trade) sure make it seem like they are about to trade pitching for infield and/or outfield bats.

Padres sign Craig Stanmen..

To a minor league deal

That's cool, but what about Craig Stammen?
