2023 offseason

Trevor Story just had surgery on his right elbow, not sure how long that will keep him out. Tough hit for BOS, he was either their starting SS or 2B.

Kim for Casas lets go!

Would Manny take a 12/350 in essence lowering his AAV to $25..could front loaded at 35 for 1st 7 yrs or so.. but for tax purposes only counting $25per? Thus helping the team now and in the future??

How does 350/12 come to 25 per season??

Fkng twitter math folks.. Jesus.. 12/300... ooof idiots

I would say that he wants to have a higher AAV than Devers, 11/331 which is $30.09M. So $31M for 10 years, $310M. The extra million over his existing contract does nothing to the CBT picture, keeps him higher than Devers, the only player to this point to sign 2 $300M contracts, and signed through his age 41 season.

Garrett Whitlock would be interesting get .. minors/mlb pitched 80+ IP.. so 105 or so in 2023..sort of Martinez type usage aka Lugo back and forth pen and SP..like Nick has done everything SP/BP and closer.. and is signed through 2026 with additional options...

His AAV is $4.65 is

Kim is $7.. so creates room

Also has some sexy options of $8 25 in 2027 and $10mil in 2028.. if he becomes a 120-140 IP guy in the 4th to 6th spot from 23 til then ..options = no brainer and exactly the type of $$ and length that would make him very valuable... Is he enough for Kim?

From a 2024 perspective ..Joe/?/?/Whitlock/Nick Martinez looks a little less daunting to address...

While also provided insurance if (with the exodus of Hader/Garcia and Hader) Suarez/Wilson/Hill can't handle or get hurt the 7 8 9 roles in 2024...

Would expect ... at best until mid-season and considering it was his right elbow they might not want to toss him into SS and the long throws (maybe not even 2B with the DP pivots) in 2023. DH upon return.

I guess BOST does not want to give up on 2023 (they overpaid for Jansen as a closer and signed Yoshida) so dealing for Kim would make some sense. Might try to give us prospects and given their prospects (other than Casas) nothing compelling for the Padres.

Casas is an elite prospect but as yet zip at the ML level and is that a good thing for the 2023 Padres at the cost of losing Kim?

Padres with Kim are in a golden spot.. meet our price/overpay or can't get our man..and SS aren't available at all.. we have 4 (Kim/Xander/Tatis and Jake) that could start for every team.. some young guys Jazz and Diaz are raw and exiting ... BUT besides Rosario (Ahmed) and Anderson (Tim).. no SS worth a top 10 SS billing in 2023 (in the case of Anderson and Rosario 2024) and beyond will be available anytime soon making SS the most sought after position with the least amount of studs in baseball for the next decade..especially with all the elite ones getting locked up for a decade + and often with no trade clauses

Another reason as well that Merrill is just not available

IF Ceddanne Rafaela is ready for the ML and mlb.com says he could/should be, could build a deal around him. He could man CF, allowing SD to send Grisham to MIA for a SP. And then another piece from BOS to finish the deal. We would also have Engel and Dahl to man CF, while waiting for Rafeala to get ready.

BOS gets Kim. SD gets Rafaela and Chris Murphy LHSP.

MIA gets Grisham, Campusano, and Rosario. SD gets Luzardo and Berti.

Imagine being a Red Sox fan and seeing Xander go to SDP

Then SDPs SS comes to you

But watching Withlock go to SDP...

Really have no interest in Whitlock, dont see the need for another hybrid short inning SP/RP.

SD needs real SP that can go every 5 days, especially next season. Not trading a premier trade chip for a hybrid.
