Quote from Henry Silvestre on August 11, 2022, 11:30 amCould Kim to RedSox for top prospect Salas 1B/DH..ready to go mlb 2023.. be a thing?. Obviously if Salas was an OF or SS or C in the top 20 (like Hassell was for us) maybe too much time ask for Kim.. BUT a 1B/DH ?? Might be about right...1B 2023 solved.. only risk is starting a Rookie ..but say we resign Profar (or he stays) and Drury.. we can afford a little growth pain from our Campusano/Salas rookie DH/1B ..while Drury provides insurance and starts at one position all the time..mostly DH/1B but also 2B/3B on rest days for those guys..

Quote from fenn68 on August 11, 2022, 11:56 amI could see the NYY in the mix for Kim ... currently Kiner-Falefa is a lesser hitter and fielder and they may not be in on the big SS since they may focus on re-signing Judge.
Add MINN when Correa opts out and ATL if Swanson departs. Boston for sure.
Has to be an exercise in interrelated decisions / moves as to whether Kim gets dealt. Can make a good scenario of keeping Kim (at $7MM) ... deposit Tatis in CF (drop Grisham to the bench) .... and go for lower cost options than Bell at 1B (or use other deletes) while still staying within budget. Is Kim/Tatis > Tatis/Grisham? What are the potential alternatives to Bell (guess $16MM+) that would cost less with still decent productivity? Drury? Campusano? Beaty? Mancini? some combo?

Except the prospect wouldnt come back to SD, it would be Murphy coming to SD, and the prospect/s going to OAK.

Quote from fenn68 on August 11, 2022, 12:01 pmAlthough I would like 3 years of Murphy ... think the price would be too high (in prospects) to justify the trade with the maybe more pressing needs for 2023+. IF the remaining top prospects get traded ... maybe a priority is SP or a big bat to replace Bell, Profar, or Grisham ... depending on who departs.

Yeah, the biggest decision is Tatis inability to stay on the field. His IL stints seem to get longer each season. So big roll of the dice on whether you can handle having Rosario at SS instead of Kim, if/when Tatis is hurt again.
Im still OK with Grisham in CF. If Profar opts out, I could live with an OF of Tatis, Grisham, Soto all day long, with back ups of Azocar and Beatty. Keep Kim at SS, and then think about the cost/performance difference of resigning either Bell, Drury, or Myers for 1B.

Quote from fenn68 on August 11, 2022, 12:18 pmI will guess Profar is re-signed ... so potentially with the status quo
OF: Profar - Tatis - Soto
INF: Machado - Kim - Cronenworth - ? TBD
C: Alfaro - Nola
DH: ?TBD
Internally Campusano and Rosario should factor in ... Beaty (don't forget him) will be back ... Grisham is still around ... some combo of them with lower costs alternatives to Bell (Drury, Mancini, others) still would create a pretty potent offense (and defense). Aim the rest of the money on replacing Manaea and Clevinger ... being down two SP will be more of a problem than the offense.
Case NOT to trade Kim.

Quote from BoosterSD on August 11, 2022, 12:23 pmIMO, the first priority for the offseason, if not before would be the resigning of Clevinger. You are right, we can not be down 2 SP. I do agree that for a lot less money, SD can do well with using a combo of Davies/Weathers similar option for the 5th starter.

Quote from BoosterSD on August 11, 2022, 12:24 pmMaybe we can get Hosmer from BOS for 1B!?!?! Hahaha wink wink!
In all seriousness, Muncy has $13M club option versus a $1.5M buyout. IF Muncy became a FA, do you think that SD should have interest? He is having a down year for him BA wise, but his HRs and RBIs are OK. Not at $13M, but a LH bat for $8M±?
Or is Mancini the better option?

I would be OK if I didn't see Muncy for the rest of my life, even wit the Pads.
