LAD using its own players as the justification to release Bauer is a bad look

This isn't anything official, obviously, but I expect Heyman (perhaps naively) felt the reader would place an emphasis on the fact that the Dodgers clubhouse has upstanding, genuinely good people in it that refuse to play with trash.

I'd imagine any official statement by the club wouldn't be worded in any way that would "pawn off" blame on the players.

1yr Longoria to Dbacks

1yr/$4mil +$1in Incentives

Cheap cheap

*this makes Voit a $3 mil per guy.. at best..D Smith nearing minimum $$

The market for bats has dropped a lot.. Profar <$10 now for sure ..and not even sure he gets better than 2/18 he walked from I know $10 was a club option in 2024..but sure AJP would have guaranteed it if Profar/Boras had asked... Boras is great Agent but seems every year a couple of his clients get screwed

Well Preller is playing this out pretty well considering the number of options remaining and really only looking at “supporting cast” If he adds it going to be a bargain at this point.

For fun looking at a crystal ball 4/20/25..after locking up Soto..

1. Tatis RF

2. Soto LF

3. Manny 3B

4. Xander SS

5. Merrill 2B (pre arb)

6. Doersching DH (pre arb)

7. Dixon 1B (arb 1)

8. Nola C ($4.5 mil)

9. Zavala CF (pre arb rookie)

#5 SP J. Wolf (pre arb Soph)

Still a lot better than NLDS team had in 2022 on 4/20/22...

I will predict the do not re-sign Soto and not exercise the option on Kim. So,

OF: Zavala - Grisham - Tatis

INF: Machado - Merrill - Bogaerts - Cronenworth

C: Nola

DH: Campusano

Pitching is such a wild card … no guess there.

=======

Side note might want to consider Martorella sneaking ahead of Doersching as a LHH DH option. Doersching has the eye popping power but Martorella has better bat to ball skills and also has some power … while being 2-3 years younger. Neither can play defense so that is a wash.

Root for both and maybe one actually does emerge in the ML.

========

Other position player options are more like 2026-27 at this point.

Wonder if we can get one of Belt/Mancini/Voit/D Smith... the price seems to have lowered (after Longoria 1/$4) below $4 mil as arguably Longoria is > than all 4.. D Smith might be Minimum or even minor league with ST invite territory atm..cant see Belt/Mancini and/or Voit getting much more than 1/$3.5 with incentives perhaps atm.. 1B/DH types seem not as in demand after the top guys signed.. Belt is just one yr removed from a season that was right there with Soto and Harper in 2021...  He could really be a "steal" .. I've always liked Mancini.. and another offseason removed from his cancer should have him stronger and near the AS level he can be at .. and we know what Voit brings 20+ HRs.. the moss and an infectious clubhouse presence that keeps everyone loose... Would prefer an OF 1st.. but if we think Carpenter can at least start 10-15 (of the 1st 20 in LF) then these guys make sense .... otherwise as much as I would love their bats on the bench once Tatis returns.. OF insurance (Peralta/Grossman/Duvall/etc..) might be the way.. not sure the OF $$ has dropped as much as the COI/DH guys appear to have...

Keeping an eye on who the Dbacks dfa to make room in 40.. there is a few guys I like as fits for us in their roster...

Also find it interesting that Longoria said he wanted to be on a Contender and that's why he picked Dbacks.... I think AZ ends up 3rd in West with an outside shot at the last WC spot.. going to have to beat 2 or more of LAD/Phillie/Mets/Braves/Brewers/Cards/ and/or Padres.. head to head (tie breaker) and perform all yr to do so...

Brett on 🔥  in the Dominican... making me contemplate Campy trade.. Nola/Severino/Sullivan seems = to or even > Nola/Campy/Severino...

? Is do teams view Campy as a better option than what's left in FA atm..Obviously AJP did..he kept him and let Alfaro walk and only signed Severenino on a split deal not guaranteed as insurance..so even if Campy is just > (in the eyes of most GMs) at his cost/control vs all FA C still without a job... does a team like Red Sox (Dalbec? Or Pitcher) or Twins (could expand deal Kim?)...or Marlins (could expand deal Grish) now make sense in potential trade talks? .. not saying a few games of an offensive 1st C in the Domonican is a be all on decision making process.. but obviously Brett has a sweet swing and can at least be an emergency 3rd stringer in AAA..and Severino has enough history of mlb success to at least be an upgrade overall to Alfaro (2022).. that if a situation presents itself to AJP on acquiring a need piece (even if Campy needs to be added) he can go get it... by the same token if trade partner now views Sullivan as a solid 2nd piece in a trade perhaps he is the one moved...

Anyone else getting "that feeling" that something Major/Big is going to happen soon.. like some trade we didn't see coming or one of them AJP maneuvering 5 lesser specs and a MLB piece for a SP...? I've been feeling it all morning

It's amazing to think that ONE controlled SP beyond 2023 add.. would ease a lot of concerns for the future..while addressing a present need...

Still think the Padres will get extensions done with Darvish and Snell … keep the family happy before adding to it. New winter FA market will be interesting depending on how the Padres want to deploy the money from all their own FA (and the Machado opt out).
