Why Voit makes some sense ..he is used to not playing everyday and also has that DH mentality that few players have (like Bell was awful as DH but much better when @1B).. a lot of people think you can just plug in a guy at DH and it works..it doesnt..why there is only like 8 to 10 DH guys in the MLB who are actual guys that succeed at the position.. using a rotation to rest your position players and with Carpenter and Voit playing 1B 10-20 times a season combined..maybe Carpenter plays another 10-20 games in LF.. having 2 guys that have shown to handle DH spot duty well will go a long way.. besides both are capable of winning a game in the bottom of the 9th PH for say Kim against a though Righty closer

And yes I agree a Stadium somewhere in North County with an Ocean Layer or maybe even in National City/Chula Vista that is built with similar dimensions to Petco ..would be a terrific add for AAA..

Think we have a better chance to re-sign Voit than to re-sign Profar, since the latter is looking for a much bigger contract (around 14M?) and regular playing time status.  I know not many people have faith in Dixon, but he had an impressive minor league season last year after coming back from Japan.  Let's see how he does in spring training before completely writing him off.  Position-wise, he's like a RH hitting Carpenter, i.e., can play 1st, 3rd, corner OF spots and in an emergency, 2b, but neither he nor Carpenter are going to be there for their gloves.

Remember Moorad tried to get approval for a AAA stadium in Escondido some time back … had a plan that would allow it to be used for off-season baseball tournaments, local college / high school, plus other concert events (not much of those facilities in North County).

Of course he never had the financing and getting siting approval was a challenge … it died.

Actually that still would be a good location given the population in that area and just south - north - west. However, probably could not match the attendance in El Paso and the club ownership / ballpark ownership would have to be one for the additional revenue streams. Almost has to be owned by the parent club and that synergy could also save some money on duplicate functions.

Maybe the Padres are only interested in Cueto at a real “bargain” price and otherwise stick with what they have plus Teheran and wait until the trade deadline. This current roster should get them to the playoffs without enhancement.

Trade deadline flip for a prospect? Basically bet $10MM for little value or bet $6-7MM to get a young prospect

On another note, Dodgers lost the two Turners and Bellinger and thus far have only brought in Martinez as a veteran presence.  Will the potential starting infield of Muncy, Lux, Taylor and Freeman be a defensive improvement or barely adequate?  Are they really counting on Thompson and Outman as 2/3's of their starting OF?  Thinking that the Dodgers are going to make a major move in the next few months to shore up their offense so they have to depend less on their pitching, which also could be questionable because of recent injuries.  Up to this point in time, very much like our chances to go toe to toe with the Dodgers for the flag in the NL West.
