Would they take Campy as backup/DH on occasion + Cristmatt + Mauricio Lugo.they do need BP arms to give AJP more flex with 26 (as Cristmatt out of options) win/win..

Who is Mauricio Lugo?????

I can not find him anywhere on baseball reference or anywhere.

Do you mean Moises Lugo?

Eovaldi to TEX … terms unknown

2 years / 34 million with a 3rd year vesting player option

Should help set the price for Cueto and Kluber. Should be able to get Cueto for around $12-13M now.

Would think both Kluber and Cueto … as the two quality arms remaining and a shrinking base of teams that will pay their price … should sign soon.

Guessing they are are both pushing for a multi-year deals even at their ages (37-38) … getting that second (or third) guaranteed year would be a major success. Would even take a slightly lower AAV for the years.

The supply and demand dynamic is setting up for some FA “bargains” … starting to consider the demand side of the equation.

Thinking here about INF with three of the top five FA (in terms of projected WAR) are Segura, Andrus, and Iglesias. Does not look as though all that may teams are interested at their projected contract levels.

With those three on the FA market … likely coming in at a good bargain … that should lower the trade value of Kim or Cronenworth. Sure contract may still be lower but signing the FA does not cost giving up ML players.

===========

Not quite the quality but similar “bargains” should be seen in the OF FA. On projected WAR Profar is 5th on the overall list (top OF) and just about 1.4 WAR (the other options drop off). Getting to the point where the projected WAR differences are so slight, signing one over the other is maybe based on lower contact and “fit” for the signing team. We may yet see the return of Profar (OF/1B/DH … switch hitter) but for a lot less than a 3 year / $10MM AAV projected.

Profar 3/$21 sounds good to me

He is one that might regret opt out.. his best friend is here..he loves SD and 3/30 ..2/18 (with the team option pick up in 24) is not a big difference since he likely would get > 1/10 in 2025.   Anyway I'd offer 3/24

If I were Voit I'd tell my agent to call AJP and offer my services at 1/3.75 with a 5mil club option. Or .500k buyout... I'd take that even if he were option 8th as a bat for AJP atm..

When Tatis returns there will be one open slot on the 40 man (given the current roster).

For the 13 position players seems as though 11 are pretty much locks: Nola; Cronenworth; Kim; Bogaerts; Machado; Soto; Grisham; Tatis; Carpenter; Campusano (RHH back-up catcher / DH); Azocar (RHH back-up CF .. all OF).

There may be some interesting choice for the remaining two slots out of roster players in Sullivan (LHH C), Rosario (RHH INF), Batten (RHH utility); and Dixon (RHH 1B/DH). All have minor league options. However, none have a compelling resume to make the bench for a contender. Add into the mix some veteran options who are non-roster: Dahl (LHH OF); Severino (RHH C); Schrock (LHH INF) … all could make a strong push for those last two slots. One roster slot open … and Poppen (pitcher with no minor league options will be DFA).

ST will make the decision but if putting veteran experience on the bench is important and actually upgrading offense / defense / flexibility could see two being added.

Severino (as the 3rd catcher) would free up the better bats of Nola and Campusano to DH/1B as RHH as one still is behind the plate.

Dahl as a LHH OF that can cover all three slots would balance the LHH/RHH bench.

IF they add another bat like Profar (he would get a lot of playing time as the 10th man) … only one slot remains open … and not going to play much for that 13th player … might change the criteria for that player.

Sort of a similar debate on the 13 pitchers … of the most discussed options on Morejon, Wilson, and Hill have minor league options.

If they go with six SP … Morejon is that guy for now … not likely Hill or Wilson optioned  … so a DFA of Crismatt or return of Rule 5 Lopez.

If they sign another SP … probably would retain Morejon as the “long man” in the pen to build up innings and offer some innings protection for Martinez and Lugo who also need to be managed for innings. Maybe #5 and 6 become a starting rotation of all three for innings management. Likely adding another SP spells the end of Crismatt and Lopez.

I do expect an IL for someone to start the season, so maybe some temporary flexibility but certainly some opportunity for a minor trade.

I dont think there is anyway that Morejon should be on the ML team for anything other than a short injury cover. He needs to be stretched out as a SP, and SD can not as a contender afford to do that at the ML level. The best thing for him and SD is to use an option year, and stretch him out in the MiLs. The location can be debated between AA or AAA. I am not saying the stuff is not there,Morejom just doesnt have enough innings to be counted on this season in the ML, unless its in the bull pen again, which would be another wasted season.

So sign Cueto, and let Morejon build up his innings in the MiLs, and he will be ready to contribute in 2024, when we have a mass SP departure via FA.
