2023 offseason

I like the Kim to Atl idea.

They are set to use Vaughn Grissom there but he's still a question mark....Kim isn't.

Kim to a contender makes a lot more sense than to Miami unfortunately.

Miami's gonna want someone controllable more than two seasons.

This creates a 1B hole. Most have agreed that Carpenter is not an every day player. We would need to replace Kim's bat with better 1B production in FA.

I think that Carpenter could go almost everyday, he played almost every game for the NYY until breaking his foot. Plus the production from 1B last season is not that hard to replace. And we still made the NLCS.

Or, you could sign Hernandez and Voit, and then between Carpenter, Crone, Hernandez, and Voit, you could cover 2B and 1B and DH, and cover the offense lost from Kim. All the while adding a controllable SP, that Niebla could fix probably fairly easily.

Plus we would be improving the production from C as well. I think it would still be a net plus for SD.

And to be honest, I would still like SD to sign Dominic Smith instead of Voit, and give him a chance, a real chance. He is only 28, was a highly regarded prospect, and a LH bat. And I believe he was a plus defensive glove at 1B as well, and can play LF as well. Better option than Voit.

This would keep Crone at 2B, Smith at 1B, and Carpenter at DH/sub.

New line up could be, Tatis (R), Carpenter (L), Machado (R), Soto (L), Bogaerts (R), Crone (L), D'Arnaud (R), Smith (L), Grisham (L).

The question is if ATL would like the deal. Trading D'Arnaud maybe but Anderson would be the hang-up ... way too much potential with long control and low cost.

D'Arnaud and Anderson for Kim and Campusano (a Georgia kid)?

I thought about Campusano instead of Nola, just wasnt sure that ATL would like the idea of their only back C being a "rookie" as well.

But I would not hesitate doing that trade either.

Or, you could say D'Arnaud and Anderson for Kim, Nola, and Weathers. That way each team is sending a young, controllable SP that maybe just needs a change of scenery.

Either way, the D'Arnaud for Kim basis helps both teams in an area of need, and that is what needs to happen when trading between contenders.

I like a deal where we end up with Arraez (Twins) 1B/2B/DH + SP Trevor Rogers (Marlins)

Rogers struggled as a Soph after a brilliant rookie yr.. but #1 he is lefty, #2 soph slump probably makes it cheaper to acquire vs Lopez or Luzardo..

So Arraez + Rogers to SD

Kim to Twinkies

OF Waller (Twins) + Weathers and Mauricio Lugo to Miami

If we can get D'arnaud + Anderson I would prefer that ..cause C upgrades are like non existent.. and if we are ok with Campy as a backup.. ATL should be too..

Would a couple trades work here.. maybe the one to Minnesota/Miami

+ Arraez + Rogers

Followed by a Janson trade with Toronto

Since they have Kirk and now Varsho (who can at least be 3rd C insurance)

Would they take Campy as backup/DH on occasion + Cristmatt + Mauricio Lugo.they do need BP arms to give AJP more flex with 26 (as Cristmatt out of options) win/win..

I am warming up to the Voit or Dominic Smith signing... both are LHB (I know Voit is RHP BUT his splits are very LHB like ..he owns righties and struggles vs lefties) and either a trade or Cueto signing.. or both...

Without creating other holes we have 1-7 set... 1-8 when Tatis comes back

Our 9 to 13 position players

9- Carpenter

10- Campy (Severino could push)

11- Azocar (really no backup CF til Tatis back)

12. Dixon - based on late season call up org likes him and should be #12 if no one else comes up or signs

13. Batten- this will be a highly contested spot in ST and a likely drop

Until 4/20 everyone moves up ONE spot so #9 is #8 etc

In ST .. #13 and #12 perhaps will be the most contested spots ..if we were to add another FA bat ..12 +13 become #13 (final spot when Tatis is activated with one going back down to AAA..again if we pick up a BAT..)

The contenders at the moment for 12 and 13 plus the opening day to 4/20 period (3rd spot) are Dixon IF/OF.. Batten (all except C).. Dahl (no 40) OF.. Kohlwey (no 40) IF/OF.. Tucker (no 40 and no options if on 40)OF..Rosario IF-SS (he is not going to be in SD if he is going to ride the pine..likely traded or in AAA to start the season baring an injury)..others Ornelas/Howell/ST invites...should be fun battle in ST

If we indeed sign or trade for +1 net bat .. ST and 1st 20 days of season would determine who holds on to that final spot..

While we like Kim, I dont think you are getting both Arraez and Wallner for Kim. Kim and Arraez is almost an even trade.

Then SD would flip Wallner to MIA for Rogers. Which Rogers has more trade value than Wallner, and Weathers and Lugo have virtually no trade value.

It would boil down to an even swap of Kim and Arraez.

Then SD would have to give up Merrill and Zavala to get Rogers out of MIA.
