2023 offseason

Been going back and forth on Eovaldi vs Cueto.. and been leaning Cueto pretty easy.. better track record.. more durable..will be up to 50% cheaper (likely more like 30%)..and probably a better clubhouse fit with our heavy Latin core... yes Eovaldi misses more bats..but Cueto doesn't BB many and keeps the ball in the park ..with Petco behind him ..that would play even better at 37 perhaps a guaranteed 2 + 1 option at say (Tyler Anderson) 3/$39 might do the trick (vs prob 3/54 to 3/60 for Eovaldi + the picks) I think whomever it is it needs to be a signing with controlled beyond 2023.. even if it's just 1 extra yr...
If is not Eovaldi/Cueto/Kubler or Wacha... then a trade for guy like Pablo Lopez should be in the cards... +1 SP of this caliber could be the right recipe for a memorable 2023 season..

For reference point/s at deadline etc...upcoming FA both 2023-24 (3months rentals) and 2024-25 (what would be Luis Castillo 1yr + 3months like )... obviously rentals are cheaper than +1 yr control guys.. but teams out of contention usually make expiring contract guys or +1 yr guys available at deadline... guys with more yrs of control are usually not deadline (available) movers.... Soto was an exemption...

Castillo signed a very team friendly contract extension shortly after landing in SEA. He is under control until the end of 27, with a vesting option for 28.

Yes, I agree Cueto is the better choice. No CBT draft penalties, more innings last season, better ERA, better WHIP, and less money per season.

Teams are checking on Chris Sale’s availability. Red Sox are not looking to trade any of their starters but view rotation as an area of depth and are at least willing to listen, and consider. Sale does have complete no trade clause so he can veto potential deals.

Yes I know.. I was just pointing out that deadline deals are usually for rentals or +1 yr if control..like Castillo was when they traded for him
