I know we have Cosgrove/Castillo/Moises Lugo/Felipe/Lopez (rule V)/ Jacob/Cristmatt and others ready m, willing and able BUT that's a lot of Veteran BP arms exiting our team.. 4 SP and 4 BP arms in FA 2024 to replace seems impossible....

* We need our internal options to "claim" at least 1 of 6 SP roles for 2023 and beyond .. and at least 2 of the BP ones.. be it by beating an incumbent or by showing enough in opportunities given in 2023 to assure AJP He doesn't need 4 SP and 4 BP arms in 2024 FA...

Simply put can't go into 2023-24 offseason with 5 of 13 arms penciled in

* Why I see a controllable SP beyond 2023 as the way to go (Trade) and not one of the mediocre ?? Filled FA SP left on the board.. Pitts SP JT- B, or one of the 4 Marlin SP not named Alcantara ..should be AJPs main focus between now and ST as any of these dudes could slide into the #3 spot in our rotation beyond 2024 and make it a little easier to manipulate the FA world and a lot cheaper $$

He just got DFA'd by NYY .. age 35.. controlled 2023 and 2024.. been very good last 2 yrs in NY..lefty not a need but #1 does he have options and #2 can we carry he and Lopez (Rule V) if he doesnt..

He does not have options left and as it stands probably cannot carry Lopez without an offsetting 26 man roster move … likely a DFA of Crismatt..

Hill is NOT a FA after the season.

Would expect a full on push by the Padres to extend both Darvish and Snell before the end of the season. Use 2023 to see what they really have in Morejon and Groome as SP before trading Merrill (if the pitcher is really upper rotation with multi-year control, nothing else but Merrill would get him … less and will get outbid).

I do agree that in 2024 pitching will rise to the critical path need. If Machado signs an  extension the offense is all returning so the focus (and money) will be all pitching.

Side prior to this off-season would have said zero chance they would re-sign Hader as a FA with the history of closers and the astronomical price tag. Now not so sure if Hader pitches to his standard … and clearly the Padres are paying for the elite talent (see Bogaerts) he may just return to that dual closer role with Suarez. However, Garcia and Pomeranz will be gone.

Has good minors #'s .. struggled a bit in Baltimore.. but so did his dad before finding it later on...

Just looked up Phils career .. their 1st 200 PAs are almost identical for Phil and Tyler.. we know what Phil became after that.. could Tyler be Phil 2.0?
