Quote from Jeremy Hill on December 20, 2022, 1:18 pmRoster Resource has us just shy of 267m now. The question for me now is if they're willing to break 273m and have their first pick dropped 10 spots. They would have to leave some room for in season additions too, so they would almost certainly have to trade Pomeranz to add anyone else in free agency if the draft penalty is a concern.
I don't know that it is a concern, but I also don't think there's too much left on the market that would be worth giving up draft position and paying penalties for. It might be traded and minor moves from here.
I would put Carpenter in LF and let Campy get most of the DH ABs until Tatis gets back with the current roster. If Dixon, Dahl, Kohlwey, Batten, Azocar or someone else has a big spring maybe they adjust from there.

Quote from Henry Silvestre on December 20, 2022, 1:29 pmI think we need to use Rosario #5 spec (was #6/7 before the Soto trade ) so still well regarded... while he has high value ..be it in combination with other pieces for a MLB piece..or an even straight prospect swap .. he is a solid SS/3B/2B spec with good defense and pop in his bat ..a team near lux tax needing a SS with all gone may bite.. as would a team like A's who could add another spec to their box of specs..
AZ surplus in LHB a d OF protected D Fletcher CF their #13 spec from rule V.. I would swap Rosario for Fletcher straight up.. even if Rosario is slightly the better spec.. Fletcher is the better fit..
As mentioned maybe a Rosario + Khner+ BP arm for Seth Brown also works for me
Etc..etc.

Speaking of someone else... 3 OFers who could challenge in ST for the 26 (or at least put their names in neon lights for later on in the year)
1. HOWELL CF/SS unique skill set position wise.. could be the fastest guy in our system. Has good D and good OBP skills..and some pop... Injuries caught his season short but he was ramping up at AA in May .900+ OPS and June .922 OPS before injury cost him the rest of the season
2. ORNELAS - Coming off his best season yet, the 5th yr pro out of Tijuana is a pure hitter (should hit .280 or so at MLB level if_when given a chance) with solid OBP skills ..Power potential is there but hasn't translated in game.. a Huge ST could earn him a spot (like Azocar last yr..)
3. KOHWLEY - We all know about "slappy" low K rate..high OBP skills.. line drive machine with next to 0 pop.. still a great skill set hitting 9th in front of out top 4 second time through...

What's the $$$ pool penalty on 10 spots lower.. I dont think the 10 spots are a big deal ... especially since we are towards the end of rd 1.. but the overall $$ pool (again drafting lower) shouldn't be more than a couple 100k... not like being #5 and dropping to #15 where it would be millions...

Quote from sportwarrior on December 20, 2022, 3:17 pmThis might be a silly question, but if we are bumped 10 spots out of the 1st round, how is that calculated? Do they account for overall draft position, landing us in one of the sandwich rounds? Or do they only calculate position in 1st/2nd round? Obviously the implication could be drafting 38th overall, or falling back 4 positions in the 1st and 6 in the 2nd to draft something like 50th overall.

That is why I have been focusing on a legit OF signing for the 9th hitter.
Tatis has a lot to do to get his wrist ready for hitting (effectively) and may not be ready for the April 20th and link that to my other concern about his injury history since AA maybe requiring a replacement for weeks at a time.
Tatis is a known unknown and needs to be covered.
