Need Swanson to sign with some odd team like Red Sox or Cubs... so HSK value skyrockets with teams that are great fits in play

Best thing in regards to trade value for Kim is MIN and ATL getting shut out on Swanson, the make the most sense in terms of being compatative and especially in the case of the Twins, being dollar sensative.

Also those two teams may have the best match for the Padres in a return ... with at least some belief those players would be available.

One competitor in trading a SS maybe the the Giants ... with Correa coming in and will play SS ... the plan to move Crawford to 3B is not sitting well with Crawford who is say he is a SS and that is where he wants to be. Crawford is good defensively but not (in 2022) the hitter he was. FA after 2023 and carrying a pretty steep contract about $16MM ... so Kim probably has the advantage.

Not sure how true the rumors of the Braves interested in trading Fried.

Why would they?

Their offense is stacked as it is...what would they even be looking for in return?

Plus he's only at about $12 mil with 2 more years of Arb so would be a huge return expected.

Maybe this is only if they don't get Swanson back and they want a Shortstop?

If so....Kim ++ might be a trade that could be worked out.

I just find it hard to believe they would have any need or desire to trade Fried.

Moving away from trade talk for a minute. AJ Cassavell says that they're still looking at the 1B market. The idea would be to rotate guys through at DH and possibly shield Kim from tougher righties. Maybe they gamble on someone like Matt Carpenter or Brandon Belt.

That fits ... especially since every indication is that the Padres will want the DH as a rotational position.

Still hoping for Brantley and Myers.

I figure if I mention it enough I may will it into existence.

Haven't heard ANY rumors about either...maybe Brantleys' health is still an issue?

I'll take Seth Brown(A's)/Drury (or Myers) as my Lefty/Righty platoon DH/1B/LF

I never thought they would trade Fried, my thoughts were more along the lines of a Kim/Nola for D'Arnaud/Arcia?? type deal.

ATL upgrades at SS, and allows Grissom some time to mature, and Nola as back up for Murphy. SD gets an upgrade at C with D'Arnaud and a back up INF in Arcia, letting Crone stay at 2B where he is an all star, and Kim and D'Arnaud are about the same money.

Although SD would then need to find a 1B, via FA or trade. Myers???

Brown would be a good get. And resign Myers for bench/platoon duty.

Unless the Padres feel they could somehow keep everyone including Soto…why not trade Soto for Ohtani? If ever there is a time to need Ohtani…now ie the time.

Why would LAA trade Ohtani for Soto?

Money and long term improvement. They seem to like their staff without Fried and Fried in Arb should get $12MM this year and maybe near $20 million next … then don’t expect to re-sign him at his likely price as a FA.

Trading him now with two years control should deliver a Soto type return with some elite prospects coming to ATL.

I have a feeling Padres are getting Othani either at the Deadline or Uncle Peter just saying fk it 10/500.. next offseason while keeping Yu.. and extending Manny
