I will open the bidding with Kim to MINN.

MINN gets:

1. Kim … 2 years control … $7MM, $8MM (huge bargain cost in this environment)

2. Pomeranz … 1 year control … $10MM (MINN has to gamble on health but a need and will serve to balanace the dollars in this proposal)

SD gets:

1. Kepler (LHH plus defensive OF) … 2 years control … $8.5MM, $10MM

2. Gray (RHP … upper rotation type) … 1 year control … $12.5 MM (in the discussion since the TWINS have a good remaining staff with a number of top arms in AAA)

3. Martin (OF/INF in minors) … once a top draft pick and an excellent hitter (contact type) but bogged down in AA). .. added to the deal to compensate for the Padres picking up $4MM net payroll in 23 and $2MM in 24.

MINN should be able to cover the loss of Kepler / Gray internally and with a real need for a SS (and for two years) … Kim works.

Kim is now controlled for three more seasons correct?

Sportrac shows 2025 as "vested" at $7 mil.

So 3/21 still remaining

Arraez came up in the MiL as a 2B, but MIN has Polanco so they used him as utility guy. I will take the risk that he can still play 2B, especially for that bat.

MIN gets Kim and Knehr, and SD gets Arreaz.

Kim has 4 yrs control... and to me and to his 5.1 WAR 2022.. and at his price $$ he is arguably the most valuable trade chip in baseball at this moment... AJP/Peter need a face to face with Manny and Kim "Before" though the Chemistry of the Team comes 1st... then ask for the Moon/the stars and the sun for HSK

Cot’s and Roster Resource both have 2025 as a mutual option with a $2MM buyout … no mention of a vesting clause.

Beginning to really question the accuracy of Spotrac and they seem to be in conflict with the other services often.

The top 10 SS and some superstar in the making youngsteps (5+ control) are all locked up for a decade+ SS even league avg+ are now worth BIG returns ... Swanson going to get paid

Don’t think the Padres would need to add to Kim. Arraez is a good hitter but not a premium position player no power and questionable defense which flys against the theme of having quality defense up the middle without the shift.

I put Kim’s value (not a bad hitter but elite defense and versatility to cover SS) above Arraez for the Padres.

However might gamble on Arraez at 2B … but a deal may need other pieces to balance it out … I put a lot more value on elite defense at a premium position like SS over a 2B with marginal defense and little power who provides quality on-base.

Even better, Kim straight up for Arraez, leave Crone at 2B, and put Arraez at 1B, where he played 65 games for MIN in 2022.

A Kim move does open the door for Merrill at SS within the next 2 yrs with X sliding over

Where are you getting 4 years of control from, cite your source.

Yes, Kim is valuable, but he is not the most valuable trade chip in baseball. He might not even be the most valuable trade chip in SD.

Yeh, can’t find any source for 4 more years of control. Kim signed his FA contract at age 25 … a four year contract … so the “six year control” does not apply if that is the basis of the extra years.

The 2025 option is a “mutual option” which never gets picked up … so Kim is a two year control guy (but at a great price for his WAR at a premium position where alternatives have dried up).
