Health is always an issue but his demand for $210MM+ for 7 years … knowing he is the best pitcher out there at age 30 and the NYY and SF are after him … just lets this drag on to get to that level. Most thought the risk level maxed at 5 years and a 6th year is iffy … the 7th year is a big leap for a SP.

Although I don’t like long term deals on general principles … but understand the market realities … I would only do that length for a position player (ideally one with a solid health profile) … so Machado, Bogaerts, and Soto if he is resigned make sense (put Tatis in a different category) … but would not go that long for a 30 year old pitcher.

Having said that … this is Siedler / Preller so??? Rodon is elite …. If they are going to spend $30MM on a mediocre SP + DH + bench upgrade are they better off with Rodon and scramble around league minimum for the two additional bat?

We could make those deals and sign Rodon and lose in the first round of the playoffs (dodgers)

While I am most certainly with you and all I want is a Championship before I die....nothing guarantees one.

I'm just guessing that AJ is hesitant to trade Merrill and a few others for this very reason.

While we are most definitely "all in" and our window is wide open...it just worries me to completely gut the system.

Fried - $12.2M Estimated Arb. D'Arnaud $8M. Kim $7M, no ML money for the prospects. $13.2M add to SD.

Arreaz - $5M Estimated Arb. Grisham $2.6M Estimated Arb, Kerr and Crismat are ML min. $1.5M combined. $1M add to SD.

Benintendi $14M, Myers $7.5M, Hernandez $5M, Barnhart $2.5M. $29-30M add to SD.

About $44.5M give or take based on MLBTR estimated arbitration and free agent guesses, plus a little padding for the over priced 2022-23 offseason. Added to where ever SD is now, havent taken the time to add with Bogaerts, Martinez, and Suarez.

Would imagine that it would push close to $300M, including penalties.

With using and looking at Roster Resource, depending on how the buyouts for Suarez, Martinez, etc are counted. Current 2023 CBT money including the cash for Hosmer, is sitting between $254M and $259M. We are definitely in the 2nd penalty range now.
