Another SP signed
down to Kluber, Wacha, Syndergaard, Lugo, and Cueto in that $10-12.5MM range? Below that nothing appealing. Preller must have a plan (or really evaluates the options differently) ... or just possibly Siedler will only approve more significant payroll if it is for a top line player ... not just OK options.
Maybe a trade is possible but if it has yet to happen ... parties are not in agreement while FA options are fading away.
How soon before we hear the Padres are the mystery team in on Rodon and/or Eovaldi?
My man Davies gets zero respect.. why he signs for 1/$1.5mil every offseason 😆 🤣

Quote from Henry Silvestre on December 13, 2022, 10:37 amWonder if AJP knows/sees something we don't in Teheran/Avila/Wethers/Groome/Poppen/Espinoza etc.. when evaluating SDP SP 2023
1 of these Dudes establishing himself even as a #5/#6 SP will go a long way in bridging the 2 yr gap on Muzr/Lizarraga/Wolfe/Williams and 3 yr gap on Lesko/Snelling

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 13, 2022, 10:46 amHow amazing is it that with AJ and Seidler we even for a second believed he could be trying to sign Correa.
Wild times!
BUT,just to play along....if AJ thought Manny would opt out Xander to 3b Correa to SS after this season.
I'm also sure it's 99.5 % BS.

That's what I've been starting to think.Does he think with our offense (and adding a DH maybe) all we need is for #4 and #5 starters to just give us innings and a 5 era?
Are we gonna roll with Martinez as #4 and a combo of the rest of the guys as #5 throughout the season?
Maybe make a trade at the deadline?
Or is he in talks with the Braves for a SS++ for Fried deal?
Fried is controlled through 2025....would cost a LOT.
Kim/Merrill/Zavala/Mears?
They play Kim for 2 seasons and then have Merrill?
I know it's probably not even in the realm of possibility....but what else we got to do?

Quote from dusty on December 13, 2022, 11:52 amMy opinion is that we make one more signing for sp (think Wacha/Greinke/Kluber/Thor/Lugo). And he is looking for the right deal with the right team between now and the trade deadline (possibly ST) to deal Merrill. However, Merrill being so young, they could wait until next offseason to deal him as well. Depends on the health of Darvish, Snell and Musgrove and if they feel they need a mid to back of the rotation arm or a top of the rotation arm mid season and what other emerging prospects emerge

Quote from fenn68 on December 13, 2022, 12:05 pmWonder if Preller … given the “marginal” options still out there as FA … and given he has a very strong top 3 SP and a very strong starting 8 position players … he is very controlled on adds now (relies on some lower cost late signings and the current internals) then uses the first half of the season so determine where his biggest needs are and then use the trade deadline to make the big add?
With the Top 3 SP and the 8 man regular position players … the team should be strong enough to still play up to playoff contention wins … then with an eye on the bigger prize make the key add to take them to the WS. Could get that last piece (or pieces) at a lot lower cost (2 months of salary) and / or less in prospects if only a rental. A bit of the LAD strategy in recent years.

Quote from BoosterSD on December 13, 2022, 12:13 pmHow about this.
Trade 1. SD gets Fried and D'Arnaud. ATL gets Kim, Lesko, Merrril, Nola, and Zavala.
Trade 2. SD gets Arraez. MIN gets Grisham, Kerr, and Crismat.
SD signs Benintendi, Myers, Cesar Hernandez, and Barnhart.
Rotation becomes Darvish, Fried, Musgrove, Snell, Martinez, and Teheran.
Starting 8 are Machado, Bogaerts, Arraez, Crone, D'Arnaud, Benintendi, Tatis, and Soto. Bench of Myers 1B/DH/COF, Hernandez INF/OF, Campusano C, Barnhart C/1B, and Azocar OF.
- Arraez (L) -2B, 2. Machado (R) - 3B, 3. Soto (L) - RF, 4. Bogaerts (R) - SS, 5. Tatis (R) - CF, 6. Crone (L) - 1B, 7. D'Arnaud (R) - C, 8. Benintendi (L) - LF, 9. Myers (R) - DH

Quote from BoosterSD on December 13, 2022, 12:34 pmAny thoughts about bringing back Hedges?
With this line up, the DH, and the new throw over rules. Could we not live with his canon arm and feather lite bat in the 9 spot? Hell, couldnt we DH for Hedges and just let the pitcher bunt again, like in days gone by?? HAHAHA 🙂
Campusano and Nola can concentrate a little more on hitting and spell Hedges for about 30-40 games, based on the teams that we are playing

They both had QOs, so yeah, if we were really in on Bassitt, why not go Rodon? Its just money at this point.
