2023 offseason

Its sounds like NYM are listening to offers on Carlos Carrasco, he has dealt with injury issues from 2019-2021, but he did throw 152 innings last season, to a 3.97 ERA and 1.329 WHIP. Some of it was had to do with his cancer diagnosis in 2019, and that probably lead to some of the other physical issues.

Wonder if SD should have interest in him, and what NYM would want for him. He comes with a $14M salary for 2023, and is a FA after the season.

He is literally the only Mets SP that absolutely OWNED us in 2023

Not sure the Mets would want to deal with the Padres to make the Padres better … especially if they could deal Carrasco to other teams if they wanted to dump salary. However if they could hurt the Padres by getting a great return off the ML roster … sure. Carrasco for Hader? Even money and control.

Still want Brantley and Myers.

Solves DH/4thOF/1b depth.

That would work for me ... probably at a minimum total $20MM ... and would consider the sweetener being two year deals (maybe lowers the AAV a bit). If they sign for two years, really takes pressure off next winter looking for hitters when the focus will have to be on pitching with all the FA in SP and RP. We have been focusing on SP Darvish / Snell going FA but out of the pen Hader, Pomeranz, and Garcia will also be FA.

Hard to worry about 2024 when 2023 has its issues and may be the best chance for the Padres to go all the way. However, can't ignore 2024 in the next adds given the talent (and money) returning after 2023 that should not be wasted on a team with major holes.

Boy us Padre fans sure have new expectations eh?

I'm not saying you're wrong...but payroll in the top 5 up there with the Yankees---four potential Hall of Fame position players....and we "expect" then to fill the remaining "big holes".

10 years ago we would have been happy with a middle of the pack payroll and ONE superstar player.

Hard to wrap our heads around the new world of the Padres.

With all the “stars” and money spent … still a bit of a worrisome facade with nothing behind those “stars” and BIG holes can set-up losing even with those “stars” … especially if injuries show up.

As it is … if everything worked as planned probably OK … it will not.

Not sure that NYM are looking to dump salary at least in terms of Carrasco. It would probably need to be a deal where both teams benefit, since both are obviously looking to get to the play offs and make a deep run. So not sure that the NYM would want a prospect.

Definitely dont think I would do a Hader/Carrasco swap, as I wouldnt want to face Hader in the playoffs. Would IF healthy, look at a Pomeranz/Carrasco swap. And I think I have read where NYM would like to ship out McCann, bad contract. So maybe if NYM added some money. Pomeranz and Azocar for Carrasco, McCann, and some cash??

Probably just not a match, with these two teams, with the likelihood of facing each other in the playoffs.

Pretty much every team ..I mean if Mookie and Freeman go down for LAD they are basically a AAA team...

I'd rather use Merrill for a young controlled SP ..as in one of the Marlins

You are really in your pessimistic mood today, aren't you? What exactly are the BIG holes that SD has to deal with??

We have MLB All Stars at 3B, SS, 1B (Crone), LF Soto, and RF in Tatis (SS). Not to mention GG CFer, and GG finalist that has moved from SS to 2B.

You go back and forth on whether we need a 9th hitter for DH, or if Melvin will use it for rest of a regular. So that can not be considered a BIG hole. And you go back and forth on the importance for an additional SP, and the lack of room for another SP.

Yes, I think we need to upgrade the bench players. And we still have plenty of time to upgrade the bench, but I dont think you can call upgrading the bench a BIG hole.

MIN has a big hole in SS with the possible departure of Correa.

Jesus Fkng Christ... We are in on Correa ... welcome to SS Town USA

Maybe the plan is to DH Tatis (Ala Harper in Philly) for a season.. let all them surgeries really heal by keeping him away from throwing

WOW......just WOW......!!!!!

Whilst I'd be stoked to grab another player of his caliber, I'd much prefer an SP. I imagine the $30 million plus Correa is going to get could be used on 2 decent SP. That said, I guess 1 Correa is better than 2 decent SP?
