I was running down that train of thought as well.

Quote from fenn68 on December 10, 2022, 11:27 amSiedler and Machado have a very good relationship and Siedler has said he is motivated to keep Manny here for the rest of his career.
Expect an extension added to the end of the current contract for at least 4 years (getting Manny to about 40). No need to debate the money since Siedler will make it happen.

Quote from BoosterSD on December 10, 2022, 1:25 pmNew report on MLBTR (Jon Heyman) that even after the signing of X, that SD is still in on a SP and a corner OF bat, maybe.
Sounds like a recipe for Senga and Brantley, and making a good offseason.

Quote from fenn68 on December 10, 2022, 2:01 pmBrantley had right shoulder surgery last August and some question if he will be ready for ST.
Hard to see spending on him (as much as I like a healthy Brantley) if he may not be ready at the same time Tatis is still out on suspension. At 35, maybe a lingering question on how the surgery will impact his bat … at least at the beginning of the season.
The next bat likely has to be ready to play the first 20 games in a corner OF before becoming part of the rotational DH.

Quote from fenn68 on December 10, 2022, 2:26 pmSince Tatis is out the first 20 games and we have to assume one roster add to cover a corner OF slot for those games before becoming part of the rotational DH … begs the question who on the current roster gets optioned? Without Tatis, Padres now have 13 position players for 13 slots.
Figuring that Campusano and Azocar are “safe” … the decision has to be among Sullivan (C), Rosario (INF), Batten (INF/OF), Dixon (INF).
I have been thinking Sullivan (at 28 no ML time and not really that good) but for the first 20 games having him sitting on the bench and optioning Rosario or Batten makes some sense.
First, want the best bat out of that group DHing in those first 20 … most think Campusano is the best hitter of that group … keeping Sullivan allows Campusano and Nola to rotate C/DH with protection of having to pull the DH due to an injury of the catcher. Second, with the current INF options don’t need two light hitting INF back-ups who will neither play or DH in those first 20. Since Rosario is the prospect … option him to get developmental AB and be sharp in needed call-up.
Only expect one hitter of starter quality added … but may a less piece for a bench role bumps more than one.

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 10, 2022, 8:27 pmOK…wasn’t going to post any more rumors unless somewhat legit.
According to Andy Martino, who is a legit NY source, the Mets are signing Senga.
Nothing official but hard to not think they are willing to spend even more.
The Mets could very well restart the conversation of a real MLB salary cap at this rate.

Quote from sportwarrior on December 10, 2022, 8:38 pmThis is pretty disappointing. I doubt we shoot for the moon with Rodon, and I honestly don't want Basset at what he's gonna cost. Ugh.

Would think they would be in…but there also has to be a limit.
Then again,we are All in,so imagine losing the Division….or the Series…because of the rotation after the top 3.
