2023 offseason

Well might want to go to Roster Resource and try to match the detail with Spotrac … to find the differences but putting my money on RR given the detail they clearly provide seems to align with the roster as we know it.

The forfeiture of international signing bonuses…is that for this upcoming signing period or next? Reason why I ask is if it’s for this upcoming then I think there is no way we sign Rodon as we’ve already had to forfeit 1 mil and don’t think they can afford to lose more and still sign their number 1 target. However, it makes sense if it is the following signing period as this one opens next month and I’m not sure how they would be able to take away international signings that take place before a free agent signing with a quality offer happens. If it’s for the following season, then all bets are off!

This Intl signing class Jan 15th is for 2022.. so I am almost 💯 sure the penalty -$1mil is for 2023 class after this one.. we are signing Ethan Salas C to a reported projectable $$ of $5+ Mil (our pool is $5.8 for 2022) ... Salas is the #1 International prospect for this class

It seems there is an article in The Athletic that directly addresses  that question. I'm not a subscriber so I don't know. Anyone?

Senga announced on Japanese TV that he's deciding tomorrow with Mets, Cubs and Padres as finalists

The money is subtracted from the signing period that opens in January.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but won't this prevent the Padres from signing Ethan Salas? They were supposedly going to pay him $5 million or more of their $5.8 million total bonus money. Will he take less? I have really been looking forward to seeing what that kid could do. I would hate to miss out on him.

Actually sorry I misread the report. It says the money is taken from 2024 and we're good on Salas. It's a little confusing. I guess they pushed signing periods back by 6 months at some point during the pandemic.

Oof, let’s cross our fingers and hope it’s us, not the Mets.

Apparently Senga is set to make his announcement today on a popular Japanese TV show with Mets,Padres,Cubs as finalists.

Not knowing the contract offers…who has the intangible advantages?

Odds to win a WS:

Mets-Padres-Cubs

Marketing/Cultural:

Mets-Padres-Cubs

Geography:

Padres-Cubs-Mets

Familiarity w/teammates:

Padres-Cubs-Mets

What else?
