Turns out it is $90 mil plus the posting fee…..so approx $105 mil.
I need a big Padre signing/trade soon!
Just one big gamble after another in MLB. Record deal for a Japanese position player coming over from Japan.

Quote from sportwarrior on December 7, 2022, 5:22 pmShocked on the Yoshida contract. Granted, I don't know a ton about him, but Suzuki last year was heralded as possibly the greatest position prospect to come out of Japan since Ichiro. This guy.... I mean, great contact and OBP skills, so Ichiro-lite? Does that really merit the biggest contract in history for a position player coming over from Japan?

Quote from fenn68 on December 7, 2022, 5:42 pmBenitendi / Profar / Conforto may be fallback positions but Preller has to be in contact with them and their agents to establish dialogue if they have to move quickly and to get a sense of their asking price in order to set priorities. None will be “cheap”.
Probably can say that about all the next tier FA.
At this point, they need to go full bore on getting one of Bogaerts or Correa … the last two of the real impact players. If the land one of them then adding another hitter to fill out the starting line-up can be lower end. If they don’t … might opt for two middle tier options out of who is left. In any case, also full bore on Senga (think Rodon wanting 6 years at $30MM+ AAV is just a bad signing with age / injuries but he will get that given some of the other big spenders are in play).
Bogaerts rumors have been abounding for weeks while rumors on Correa have been minimal other than MINN is trying to re-sign him and linking the idea of other teams that could use him. His camp playing this close to the vest or not really engaging wanting to be the last man standing for leverage?
Not a big fan but also little word on Swanson except for the CUBS who are in on everyone.

His issue (yet not a negative for BOST) is that he is not a good defensive player (lot of DH in Japan). Still in BOST if he can hit LF is an option.
Wonder how much the Judge signing spurred BOST to not mess with negotiations and go in high (apparently the NYY also were interested in him)

Quote from fenn68 on December 7, 2022, 6:02 pmPadres did add a player in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 … nothing to get excited about but the Padres need bodies for the field positions in the minors.
Evan Mendoza (26) played in AAA last few season mainly 3B/SS. Not much of a hitter and little power but AAA INF needs help.
A little surprise they did not take a few more (unless the options were really bad for the buying price) given the need. Looks for a lot of minor league FA being signed before ST.

Quote from sportwarrior on December 7, 2022, 6:22 pmThe Athletic is peddling unsubstantiated conjecture that the Padres could pivot to Correa. Neither Dan Hayes nor Ken Rosenthal offer anything to back up their speculation, but both are viewing SD as a potential "shark" in the water for him.
Honestly, opposing fans are already booing Manny and almost certainly will be booing Tatis. Should we just go full villain and sign Correa? It might be worth it just to drive LA fans even more crazy after sending them home this year...

Not only would I relish the boos but I would buy a Correa jersey and attend games at Dodger stadium 😂🤣

Nice! Cheaper than I expected as well. We should still have enough for Senga. Now I am smiling.
