Signing Judge would be cool.

Didn't he play CF in New York? Would make Grisham expendable but would prefer to keep Trent.

Any LH hitters on the market worth bringing in who can be DH, 1B, COF? Cheap?

Dominic Smith … ex-NYM …

Dominic Smith … ex-NYM …

Good call, forgot about him, could be a nice platoon partner with Myers.

Basically one year of Bell for $16.5M seems like a decent contract, and something Im a little surprised SD didnt try to get in on with Bell.

It is a 2 year deal at $33MM. That is about $3-4MM more than most estimated his AAV.

If they are willing to dump $16.5MM AAV … for a DH / bad defensive 1B … maybe Preller will add a buck or two more and get a better more athletic hitter … at least try and that takes time.

Think Bell was a fall back … but Bell was not going to wait … so he gone.

Personally I have Kim off the trade market ... if they give SS to Tatis and he gets injured (history suggests that is a reasonable concern) the Padres have no backup quality worthy of a contender. Cronenworth can be put there but defensively no longer a SS and that just opens a different hole with no back-up.

With two holes in the 9 man line-up need to add without trading incumbents.

While it would open another hole as well, dont forget the best SS on our team plays 3B. But 3B is easier to fill than SS, defensively wise anyway.

I don't think he is our best SS any longer.

His range is not what it used to be and certainly not what Tatis/Kim have.

Of course...Manny would be good anywhere on the dirt.

Bellinger gets 17.5m from the Cubs. That's crazy.

Insane!

Bellinger … 83 wRC+ … 3.8 dWAR … 1.7 WAR … = $17.5 MM

Grisham … 83 wRC+ … 7.4 dWAR … 2.1 WAR … = $2.6 MM in ARB

Grisham for about 1/7th the cost get the same offense and better defense leaving $15MM on the table to spend wisely elsewhere.

Cubs making a rebound gamble with a lot of money being tossed around.

He would almost have to revert to his MVP form to be worth that.

He won’t.

What are they thinking?

I mean…they aren’t going to compete this year….so even if he has an MVP season they won’t make the playoffs AND he will just move on.

Weird.

Anyone else surprised at the lack of trades at the WM?

Just one day left and no trades to speak of…
