2023 offseason
Quote from BoosterSD on December 6, 2022, 12:08 pmQuote from fenn68 on December 6, 2022, 11:37 amPersonally I have Kim off the trade market ... if they give SS to Tatis and he gets injured (history suggests that is a reasonable concern) the Padres have no backup quality worthy of a contender. Cronenworth can be put there but defensively no longer a SS and that just opens a different hole with no back-up.
With two holes in the 9 man line-up need to add without trading incumbents.
I would not trade Kim without some how getting Berti, or another bench player capable of holding down SS. Although, I think with seeing the range that Crone has at 2B, he could still handle SS for 2-4 weeks in all honesty.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on December 6, 2022, 12:26 pmKnowing how Preller and Seidler operate I'm going to predict that they sign one of Judge, Nimmo, Correa, Bogaerts or Rodon. Pomeranz gets traded in a salary dump. They use the savings to sign a quality starter or bat depending on who they sign from that group. The few remaining prospects are traded to bring in another significant affordable piece. Final payroll checks in just under 273m.
Preller and Seidler are all in. They like star level players and AJ treats prospects like currency. It might not be how we would do it, but maybe we need to start thinking about how AJ will do it.

I personally would not be surprised if it got closer to $300M to be honest. With the possible departures of Machado, Darvish, and Snell after the 2023 season, this could be SDs best shot at the title, and Seidler wants it BAD!! Our man Seidler is showing he is not afraid to stroke a check and spend his family's inheritance.
Who would have thought SD would ever be in a spot like this??????????

Quote from WindsorUK on December 6, 2022, 12:41 pmSigning Judge would be cool.
Didn't he play CF in New York? Would make Grisham expendable but would prefer to keep Trent.
Any LH hitters on the market worth bringing in who can be DH, 1B, COF? Cheap?

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 6, 2022, 12:53 pmThe reports that we offered Turner $342 Mil have me dumbfounded.
Wow!
If true then we have no payroll
limit when it comes to winning a Championship.
Sign Senga & Nimmo and a couple cheap bench pieces and let’s roll!

I picked 273m just because going past that would drop our first draft pick 10 spots. Who knows if that would actually be a deterrent at this point though.

Mainly this season, and out of necessity. I don't think you want to plan on keeping Judge in CF, especially in the bigger parks of the NL West. Would be the RFer in SD, sliding Soto to LF, and then CF would be Tatis, with Grisham becoming a bench piece allowing Judge, Tatis, and Soto to have days off from fielding and be DH that day.
LHH OFers cheap, well they just brought in Dahl on MiL deal.
Brantley would be a nice LHH DH option, wont be cheap though. If they dont get Judge, Nimmo or Benintendi would be a nice LHH COFer.

Quote from BoosterSD on December 6, 2022, 12:56 pmBasically one year of Bell for $16.5M seems like a decent contract, and something Im a little surprised SD didnt try to get in on with Bell.

I agree, for the right player I dont think Seidler/Preller are blinking at this time when it comes to money.
Time for SD to get business done, and get the team across the final finish line.
Seidler wants a parade in SD!!
