2023 offseason

Based on the money already put out for marginal starters … think Senga will be in the upper teens (and on a longer deal than most expect) … total contract will exceed the early projection of $75MM/5 years. Could argue that Davies was better than Gibson who just signed for $10MM based on a 5.05 ERA … so he should also be pushing the $10MM mark on a one year deal.

I have Senga @$15.. Drury and Gallo at $6.. and Davies $5

You can dream that Senga is signing for $15M, going to be more like $20-22.5M per season when it finishes up.

Drury will be $10M+, someone is going to fall for his inflated CIN numbers and over pay that guy.

Gallo will probably be somewhere between $8-10M. Someone will overpay for a possible bounce back, maybe TEX.

And Davies should land between $3-5M, but in this inflated market, might push $7M. Though it seems that Preller may hold his off field issues against him and not want to bring him back.

Have to admit that the money being spent so far is well above what I was expecting both for the elite (DeGrom, Verlander, Turner) and the lower end (Clevinger, Eflin, Gipson, Teheran) … no reason to see that chance for any player the Padres want to sign unless someone falls through the cracks and needs to sign in ST … those likely really filler types.

Basically should be prepared for less for more.

Good place for Nomar

Supposedly Padres offered Turner $341 mil + (>Lindor money) .. per Heyman..

I love posted players..cause is a 30 day deadline

I can't see how 2 time TJ Starter Clevinger who had a poor 2022 gets $12 mil and completely healthy Davies who had a better season gets less than half that.

One has a CY and if right is as good as any pitcher in baseball.. the other is who he is a #4/5 SP with solid numbers.. the upside or "perceived" upside of a #1/#2 type arm trumps all .. its silly really cause there is a less than 30% chance that Clev is even a solid #3 at this point..but teams are willing to gamble on that..

Clevinger has never won a CY. He's never even been an All-Star. You're right that he has significantly more upside than Davies though.
