Two years of Kim for three years of Arraez.

While Kim is under contract at the $7M AAV from his 4 year contract he signed, according to baseball reference web page, he becomes arbitration eligible in 2025 and 2026, same as Ohtani was with the Angels. So, he is controlled through 2026, and that is 4 seasons.

Not sure on that control ... Roster Resource and Cot's has him under contract for 23 and 24 plus a mutual option (at $8MM with a $2MM buyout). Very rare mutual options are exercised.

Think the fact he signed a 4 year contract as a FA overrides the 6 year control scenario (sounds like what Baseball Reference is using).

Nope Othani signed as a FA too..and now is going through arb to complete his term

Shows Kim arb 3 in 2026

Kim signed as a FA at age 25 (after 6 years of professional ball in Korea) ... that may change the rules ... and he signed a 4 year deal.

Othani was about 22 and basically signed a "normal" one year prospect deal at league minimum and clearly falls under standard control standards.

I guess we will know after 2025 if the rules on signing older / experienced international FA make the difference.

I am hearing Turner got more $$ from Padres but ultimately turned it down cause California taxes made it less "net money" for him and his heart was set on the East..to know the money we offered was at or > Phillies makes me happy..on to next target who I guess is XANDER

Hearing Bradley whispers..

1. Tatis RF

2. Soto LF

3. Manny 3B

4. Bradley DH

Would still need a 1B or SS/2B (Crone to 1B).. but that 1 through 4 and Jake vs RHP at #5.. would be pretty elite..

I heard it was 5/$160

I only saw one random tweet with these numbers. All other publications I read said we were competitive with Philly.

With Merrill performing well vs AA and AAA pitchers in the AFL.. how crazy would it be to see a Rosario vs Merrill battle in ST for 2B? .with Crone to 1B..and AJP using $$ on 1)Bradley DH/OF and perhaps bringing 2) Myers back as a bench/1B vs lefties while concentrating big $$ on a SP and a depth SP

Yes, yes it would be crazy.

Getting the feeling that SP is not a top priority for the Padres … maybe a quality / price situation they just don’t like. Also, some talk of extending Darvish (whose family wants to stay in SD even if Darvish goes to another city) AND (hold you breath) … Snell who apparently has a good relationship with Siedler.

So, maybe the push for Abreu and Turner reflects thier priority for quality hitters … and maybe that will extend to the remaining top hitters.

Now linked to Correa (SS) and Vasquez (C) … both without QO … maybe has some legs. Big money (but that does not seem to be an issue). Correa would really fill out the line-up / starting 8 field positons and DH would be “rotational”. Vasquez is a top defensive option who can hit … paired with Nola (who Melvin really likes) would give quality catching for all 162 games. Campusano would become a trade chip (most likley) or a DH option.

Why are you interested in Jackie Bradley?

33 years old with a -1.7 WAR last season.

No Thanks

Wait…..Brantley?

O’s just signed 35 year old Kyle Gibson … LHP with an ugly 5.05 ERA with PHIL last season … for a crisp $10MM/1 year.

Maybe the continues the theme of remarkable high money for bad (unreliable) SP. The “better” arms remaining are really going to break the bank. Maybe that is why the Padres seem position player focused for similar money.

Get a line-up that bludgeons the opponents over 162 games … nurse the SP … and lock the games down with a superior RP corps.
