Kim/Weathers to Twins for Arraez.

Who says no?

MINN … for now as they look for a better return in a SP and SD … for now as they look for a replacement SS.

PS: the trade value of Weathers should be about zip …

I agree Weathers doesn't have much value...but as young as he is and he's healthy...and left handed....with pedigree...I would think any team would take him as "part" of a deal.

Probably worth more to us to hold and see....I wish they would put him in AA though.

"F" El Paso for our pitchers!

Two years of Kim for three years of Arraez.

While Kim is under contract at the $7M AAV from his 4 year contract he signed, according to baseball reference web page, he becomes arbitration eligible in 2025 and 2026, same as Ohtani was with the Angels. So, he is controlled through 2026, and that is 4 seasons.

And now MLBTR is reporting SD interest in Christian Vasquez, so maybe they are looking for an upgrade at C.

To quote MLBTR "The 24-year-old Campusano still has six seasons of remaining club control and would have a fair bit of value on the trade market, able to appeal to win-now clubs and teams with further off contention windows alike." So maybe we are undervaluing Campusano in trades, and SD could be looking to upgrade at C, since Nola will turn 33 soon. So......the saga contiues.

Again a non confirmed rumor but one report is that the Padres offered Turner more than he signed for with PHIL.

What we don’t know if the Padres wanted Turner to change positions or had some conditions within the offer that did not appeal … or just that the reported desire for Turner to be on the East Coast (family and wife’s family) … when getting $300MM a few more dollars may not be the most important factor.

I have also read that the CA income tax factor is plying huge in negotiations will all FAs

Not sure on that control ... Roster Resource and Cot's has him under contract for 23 and 24 plus a mutual option (at $8MM with a $2MM buyout). Very rare mutual options are exercised.

Think the fact he signed a 4 year contract as a FA overrides the 6 year control scenario (sounds like what Baseball Reference is using).

Yes, especially if the other option is a no income tax state such as FLA, TEX, or WASH.

CA has a very high state tax burden BUT not that much worse than NY / NJ and most of the NE states ... and living in SD (not LA) is a better life style ... for most. Don't think PA is a low tax state or a factor for Turner. However, it may have been for Abreu with TEX a no tax state.

So I guess it depends who are the competitors for any FA.

Shows Kim arb 3 in 2026

I have a feeling we going to hear some Padres news tonight...

Players that are under 25 that are signed out of Japan or Korea have to be signed with international bonus pool money and are thus arbitration eligible. Ohtani signed at 23. That's not the case with Kim. He's a free agent at the end of his contract. Baseball Reference has it wrong.
