I don't want to give up the last of our "good" prospects for a Catcher...even with Brown added.

Get the SP and the 1b/DH without losing Merrill,Lesko AND Zavala....roll with Nola/Campy

I would think we could het Pablo Lopez and Jon Berti for  less than that package...and they would probably take Campy.

Then you just need a DH...(Brantley)

LF-Berti

RF-Soto

SS-Tatis

3B-Machado

DH-Brantley

1B-Cronenworth

2B-Kim

C-Nola

CF-Grisham

Darvish-Snell-Musgrove-Lopez-Martinez

I like the idea of getting Lopez and Berti. The pieces are correct, although I think you have the defensive positions and batting order incorrect. In this scenario, I would keep Kim at SS, Berti at 2B, and Tatis in LF. Berti, Brantley, Machado, Soto, Tatis, Crone, Kim, Grisham, Nola.

11/$300

he’ll be 41 at contract end

And probably a 3B or 1B by that time.

I can’t imagine he will be very good at 38 with 3 more years to go.

Ouch!

Who's next? Judge? SFO? 6-8 years? $240+?

Listening to D. Smith’s show … it sounds as though the Padres were really serious about signing Turner.

IF so, some implications on the Padre’s: 1) clearly they have the money to spend; 2) are willing to go long duration: 3) not worried about signing a QO player; 4) apparently going for the best player and willing to move players into difference positions.

That does open the thinking a bit a big signing of the “right player” … but would not let that translate to more middle of the road players.

Terms of some of these contracts are ridiculous!  Can see 27M a year but not for 11 years!  Owners proving they have money to spend so players union certainly will play up to that.

Now some are linking the Padres to Correa. Same thinking that Padres want the impact player for the long term … apparently some worry about Tatis’ long term health and seem to be willing to move Cronenworth to 1B (opinion that no great 1B options left).

Also, with the FA signings at mega dollars, looking as though Senga is moving out of range (still some doubt about his conversion to MLB).

What if MIN misses out on all of the last remaining SS, and they are desperate for a SS, and not a big money club. How about a trade based around Arraez and one of MIN LHH OFers, for Kim and a couple of MiL pieces.

It gives MIN their SS at a very reasonable cost, and gives SD a LHH INF that could lead off in Arraez, and a LHH OFer.

SD could bring Tatis back to SS, slide Crone to 1B, and Arraez takes 2B. Then based on IF SD lands either Correa or Bogaerts or none, Tatis could go to LF, with LHH OFer from MIN providing bench help/platoon work.

Also heard that there is very little chance they re-sign Bell unless his asking price comes way down and they don’t spend in another direction.

Just a guess they will not go long term / big money on a SP (Rodon seems to be pushing for 6 years / over $180MM).

So who are the big names left if Preller is pushing for an impact bat? Correa, Bogaerts, maybe Swanson, Nimmo, and Judge?

Also, most seem to think next year’s FA crop is poor (except for Otani) so maybe need to buy now and not wait.

That works too...I just would prefer our Statue Contract player play his preferred position.

I guess it depends on which is best for defensive purposes......Tatis in LF & Berti at 2B...or the other scenario.

Personally I can't get behind Tatis in LF and Soto in RF.

Tatis's arm should be in RF if he's in the OF.

I'm sure the poor Free Agent outlook for next season is playing a factor for us.....and everyone for that matter.
