Which one?

Option 1: Senga and Nimmo

Option 2: Turner and Davies

Option 3: Senga and Myers

Still trying to come to grips with the fact we are truly in on signing Turner or Boegarts.

I never thought we’d have ONE player making $300 mil…if we sign Turner we could have “Three”….and that isn’t even including Soto who could be the best player in MLB!

I mean……what?

And to think now if we don’t sign one of these huge free agents we could be disappointed.

lol

I was thinking about that after the Pirates signed Santana. For most of my time as a Padres fan a move like that would have been the high point of the off-season. It still feels weird to see us spending with the big boys.

Definitely 1. Fill more actual positions of need and Nimmo is a LH.

See this is how I feel.

Would love to add another superstar bat in Turner or Xander….but what about SP#4 and 1b/DH?

Still prefer Senga/Brantley/Myers

Guess we’ll find out some day

Yeh, Senga/Brantley/Myers would be a strong option filling all three primary holes plus with the Darvish, Snell, and 50/50 chance Martinez all FA after 2023 ... better to get a longer term SP to go with Musgrove ... don't want to go into next winter trying to sign potentially 4 FA to cover behind Musgrove.

Agreed. Getting these 3 players would give us tons of options. Myers would give the Padres a solid option at both 1B and COF. They can be covered no matter what happens with Tatis and the rest of the IF/OF.

Terms of Clevinger's contract were revealed today and he gets 12M for 1 year.  No way I would have paid him that without incentives after about 8M.  Clevinger claims pitching problems were due to a bum knee and that he's getting a PRP injection to rectify the situation.  I'm not buying it.  Surprised if he pitches more than half a season for the White Sox.  His days as a top of the rotation starter are over.  Too bad we didn't know how badly he would fall apart before we made the trade with Cleveland in 2020.  Quantrill, despite his 15 wins last year, is not a true top of the rotation starter but at least he was healthy the last 2 years!  Arias, Naylor and Miller all would have been good depth on our current roster.

So what is the penalty for signing a 2nd QO free agent?

I think the penalty is loss of the 3rd and 6th picks.

So last night, there was rumor that OAK was close to trading Murphy. And we know that SD was rumored to be chasing Murphy at the deadline last season. At first they were saying ATL, and I was thinking either Preller would sweep in at the last moment, or Preller would work a trade for d'Arnaud from ATL. Since ATL has squelched those rumors, I am thinking its either SD or STL.

How would a trade for Murphy and Seth Brown from OAK work for everyone? Murphy offers a nice power upgrade at C, and Brown would be the LHH option some of us have been looking for at 1B. And since their home park is OAK, their power should translate to Petco fairly easily.

I guess it would depend on what other moves we could make, but I tend to think the type of package it would take to get Murphy would be better used to get a starter. Upgrading at catcher would be a luxury move. We have bigger needs. Brown would a good add to pair with someone like Myers in a 1B or OF platoon.
