2023 offseason

Turner has been at the top of my list since last summer( one, he's a top 20 player in MLB, and 2,  because  we should have never traded him in the first place!)

He'd be a HUGE get( or should I say, get back?) for AJ. Great hitter, great speed, perfect guy( and probably the only guy!)to supplant FTJ in the lead off role. He'll play 2B with Jake sliding over to 1B- SS at every infield spot( that defense makes average pitchers, good pitchers so no need spending $20-30 million on FA pitcher. Go out and get Davies!)

If he comes off the board to SD, that certainly makes Kim more appealing to someone in the SS market.

A win win for the Pads.

No Turner will be SS, Kim will be 2B or traded for a spot that we need.

Kim will definitely be moved. Lots of teams are searching for SS this winter. Take Turner out of the equation, Kim all of a sudden becomes sought after. What he brings back in return....who knows??.....lower end prospect? Regardless, it's $7 million off the books, which offsets the $30 million Turner gets( basically turning Trea into $23 million)

And I'm not sure Trea beats out FTJ at SS? I realise we're all pissed off with his stupidly ( which has been SPECTACULAR!) but we must not forget what a complete FREAK this guy is in the field. As Mr. P has pointed out a number of times, outside a half season of THROWING hiccups, he's been really good. Plus, there's NO SS in MLB who has his range- horizontally or vertically.

It's definitely an issue I'd be happy for Melvin to resolve next spring though.

Go get it done, AJ! Bring Trea back to SD!

Bryan Reynolds is one of the few players I would give up Merrill for.. He has requested a trade..

Reynolds had a slow stretch and many lost interest in him...but a career:

.281/.361/.481/.842 with 25 HR power at the top of the order ahead of the "Big Three" would be pretty great....especially for 3 seasons of Arb(approx $12 mil?) so ALOT less than Turner/Xander.

Plus,if this allows us to get Senga or another TOR Starter it may be smarter than the FA signings at $30+ mil per.

I don’t believe the Padres will sign Turner BUT if they did he will be the SS although out of Kim, Tatis, and Turner … Kim stats-wise is by far the best.

I know Tatis is “spectacular” but his stats don’t support the image. Consider the SS stats for all three (2020-21):

Kim (1312 innings): DRS +19; UZR/150 (range) +4.6; errors 13 (8 fielding / 5 throwing)

Tatis (1315 innings): DRS -6; UZR/150 (range) -6.1; errors 24 (9 fielding / 15 throwing)

Turner (2684 innings): DRS -5; UZR/150 (range) -0.6; errors 36 (19 fielding / 17 throwing)

Basically with less flair Kim is the better defensive SS in DRS and range. Should consider Kim also has favorable stats vs Cronenworth at 2B.

The best defense alignment may be Kim SS and Turner 2B … just don’t know if Turner would sign up for that. Should note that if doubled Kim and Tatis error stats to match the innings from Turner … the non-throwing errors would be about the same. Only throwing is a differential and Kim is the best of the pack.

___________

Would not deal either Kim or Cronenworth … no matter what was saved in salary that would go for a 1B (probably more for less overall production).

Not holding my breath to see Turner or Bogaerts in a SD uniform.

I think that Senga is going to get a Joe Musgrove caliber contract when he signs. Possibly even more. We were lucky to sign Musgrove when we did.

#LFGSD!

Still trying to come to grips with the fact we are truly in on signing Turner or Boegarts.

I never thought we’d have ONE player making $300 mil…if we sign Turner we could have “Three”….and that isn’t even including Soto who could be the best player in MLB!

I mean……what?

And to think now if we don’t sign one of these huge free agents we could be disappointed.

lol

Which one?

Option 1: Senga and Nimmo

Option 2: Turner and Davies

Option 1 ... SP is a bigger need than offense in 2023 and beyond plus Nimmo is that LHH OF the line-up needs.

Definitely 1. Fill more actual positions of need and Nimmo is a LH.
