2023 offseason
Quote from BoosterSD on December 1, 2022, 12:52 pmQuote from Henry Silvestre on December 1, 2022, 12:15 pmYou do realize only Manny and Soto were better than Voit in 2022 as Padres with the bat right?
In what stat? HRs? He had 13 HRs in SD, and finished with 22. Grisham and Jake each had 17. His batting line in SD was .225/.317/.416. His extra 5 HRs are not worth living with that batting line and lack of defensive ability. Especially when his only calling card is his bat. And he struck out 110 times in 298 ABs. Voit finished the season with 179 strike outs and 22 HRs. That stinks, pass on Voit.

I will opt for the cheaper bundle with Senga - Brantley - Myers … still almost $35-40MM but with no long term commitments for Brantley / Myers and don’t have to take the hit on QO players. Brantley is a real professional hitter and LH … Myers provides good 1B defense with basically an average offense. Both (with a lower cost) should complement the big three and leave money for further upgrades as needed.
And if Senga gets too pricey, can always look at Walker, Quintana, Tallion, and others in that ilk.
I think that Brantley/Myers combo could be decent. Myers is fun to watch at 1B, and plays good defense there.

Not into given long term deals to the likes of Rodon and Bogaerts when potentially trying to extend Soto and Darvish. Also on Rodon … never like giving long term deals to a pitcher with an injury history (see Sale and many others). Maybe on a hitter but not “older” position players that are already 30ish whose decline could come sooner than a younger player in his twenties … less real productive years.
This has been my preference from the get go.
Brantley and Myers could provide a lot more value than their cost.....as could Senga... and no penalties.
Myers of course couple play the Corners also but i really like him at 1B
Just depends on the offers he gets and AJ's willingness to bring him back.
I'm guessing he would like to stay?

Agree … and I am guessing that Senga given the suitors (reported) might get bids above Preller’s valuation ceiling.
Difficult negotiation process as to when Preller pulls out of the Senga race (especially if Senga drags this on) and turns to the alternatives … then do the alternatives want Senga to sign and set a top market while taking him out of the mix … the void the would in theory get them better contracts (unless Preller come in strong early and the player has a willing agent).

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 1, 2022, 1:49 pmOf those give me Walker.
His last two seasons have been very consistently good other than the number of HR's he allowed in 2021....much better in 22'.... and I'm guessing Petco would help continue this trend.
Last year was Quintanas' best in several seasons...before that he was pretty bad for a few...that inconsistency worries me.
Did he figure something out at 33?
Plus there's that....he'll be 34 to start the season.
Taillon seems to be fully back from his injury....depending on the cost on all three of these I guess I wouldn't complain too much.
Just really like the idea of Senga on the Padres. We will have a lot of eyes on us anyway...with the good 22' and Soto/Machado/Tatis together for the bulk of the season.Adding Senga could end up quite the story if he's as good as we think he may be.

He ranked tied for 76th in MLB for OPS. And ranked 6th highest for strike outs at 179. That sucks for a power hitter with no additional value, and way to many strike outs.
Dont need to spend money on mediocrity.

In the $15M± range I can agree. If he exceeds the $20M mark, probably not worth the gamble that he will translate to ML. More Irabus than Ohtanis come from Japan.

Statement of the year right there
Only ONE Othani bro.. and Senga ain't even close to Othani as a SP..
Be realistic Senga probably somewhere between Pablo Lopez and Nick Martinez..
