Especially a guy like Bassitt.He's expecting $20 mil per but with the QO if he doesn't have a taker soon maybe he doesn't get what he's thinking he will.I like Bassitt fine...but not at the cost of 2 picks,$1 mil in Int. money and $20+ per.This is probably why the SP market has been slow to develop.Everyone waiting on Senga to sign first.I wouldn't think AJ would go after a SP with a QO until he knows he can't get Senga.

For some reason I'm not bullish on Rodon...esp. at the cost plus the QO penalties.

I may be the only one.... may be because the Padres beat him pretty handily last time out and it sticks in my head.

Rather pay the QO fees for Xander.

I will opt for the cheaper bundle with Senga - Brantley - Myers … still almost $35-40MM but with no long term commitments for Brantley / Myers and don’t have to take the hit on QO players. Brantley is a real professional hitter and LH … Myers provides good 1B defense with basically an average offense. Both (with a lower cost) should complement the big three and leave money for further upgrades as needed.

Not into given long term deals to the likes of Rodon and Bogaerts when potentially trying to extend Soto and Darvish. Also on Rodon … never like giving long term deals to a pitcher with an injury history (see Sale and many others). Maybe on a hitter but not “older” position players that are already 30ish whose decline could come sooner than a younger player in his twenties … less real productive years.
