Not sure on this technical point but don’t think they can use the slot on the 40 man that has been vacated by Tatis’ suspension. So, in essence it is a 39 man roster plus Tatis when he returns.

Sort of irrelevant since the 40 man has no issue with flexibility. The 26 is now the bigger question coupled with the payroll space left after the Martinez’ signing.

I have the Padres now about $3MM OVER the first threshold. So, considering the unknown of the money they plan to deploy, the debate likely surround going big on one FA or distribute more middle of the road on maybe three adds.

I have a feeling AJP is going to make a move or 3 by Thursday's non-tender deadline .could we find our 1B (Tellez/other) ..LF/DH (Renfroe/others) ..SP (Lauer/others) sorry being lazy and using Brewers arb guys.. in some trades by then..

Then maybe adding 1 mid bat and 1 tier 2 SP like Senga/Taillon/Walker.. maybe $30 mil left in the "Budget" with 2 position/ 1 bench / 1 or 2 SP spots left to complete the 26.. could save $6mil or so with Alfaro and Yu (extension)

We going to need some AAA position players with some mlb experience for depth
