Quote from fenn68 on July 18, 2022, 5:11 pmI can see his profile as likely a DH let him drop but remember another 8th round pick that turned out pretty well ...Paul Goldschmidt. Voit was a 22nd round.
So could be a surprise or could be a bust. Same thoughts on 5th round pick Martorella, another DH profile.
We will see whether they can hit velocity and the breaking ball at the professional level.

Quote from Henry Silvestre on July 18, 2022, 5:34 pm513 ft HR....thats a nice swing right there.. not too lofty and not too violent..
This one is even better..such a quick bat ..short swing for someone with so much power... definetely not a strike out type of swing like Luke's..very Goldy like....
I am going to make a prediction that he makes it to San Diego 1st from this class..I think cause he is older he starts at Ft Wayne A+.. if he mashes may even end up in SA to give them some pop on their post season..

Quote from fenn68 on July 18, 2022, 6:03 pmI could see two weeks in AZ for orientation to the organization and having the development folks get a first hand look to determine if LE or FW should be his first stop (clearly room for him in either spot).
Want him challenged yet successful in his first full season stop … then after the winter instructs … aim him for the next level which hopefully is AA.

Quote from Henry Silvestre on July 19, 2022, 8:11 amI bet we draft a couple of these HS kids that didn't go.. and offer 2nd rd $$ to both in an attempt to sign 1 away from College commitment... 1st one says Yes gets the $$.. some good ones on the board.. I think AJP got a few under slot guys that help him have some $$$ for 11-20 sweetener deals

Not sure the Padres will have nearly enough under slot money to elevate a pick after #10 (base allocation $125,000) to 2nd round dollars (between $1-2MM). I guess they could go over the pool allocation by about $500,000 with a penalty of around $375,000 but not likely considering the rankings of the remaining available are not that compelling ... no big prospects really fell out of the first 10 rounds.

Quote from Henry Silvestre on July 19, 2022, 10:26 amI was thinking of Gavin Guidry SS headed to LSU.. he could re enter draft in 2024.. But if we can offer $900k to $1.3 mil... range here.. maybe we change his mind.. i see a little Merrill in him... if he says no ..no big deal.. but I'd take a shot..
