Chase Valentine SS is an interesting signing..canon of an arm 94mph (pitches). Good speed ..good field.. not a power bat at all..but can be a singles/2Bs line drive dude.. if he hits for BA and has solid OBP could become a valuable cat in our system

Knew Texas had a deal for Porter (4th rd) signed him just under $4mil..

Check out this video of our 19th round pick Spence Coffman.
Played mostly Basketball…so who knows how good he can really be.
Looks like a diamond in the rough to me.
I’m gonna keep my eye on this kid.

Padres will probably announce signings as a large group at some point (this week?) So, MLB Draft Tracker has them signing 3:
#9 ... SS Nedved for $20K ... $141K UNDER slot
#13 ... 3B Pauley for $125K ... slot
#20 ... P Vail for $150K ... $25K OVER slot.

Looking like a lot of under slot signings needed to cover the Snelling signing.

Pinkey and Balboni only 2 draftees not signed yet.. looking foward to seeing where they all start in our system...really looking foward to seeing how far Doersching is from MLB 1 2 or 3 yrs out?.. his bat is so control with HUGE power ..a little like Mannys where the ball absolutely jumps off his bat when he barrels it. Not sure on his metrics barreling % and Chase rates etc.. but near .300 ba with 80 power at a big college baseball conference is a good sign

From today's DFR ...
2022 eighth-rounder Griffin Doersching had a two-hit night in his professional debut for the ACL Padres. Doersching, a towering first baseman drafted out of Oklahoma State, hit 15 home runs in 159 at-bats in 2022 for the Cowboys.

See he got a token move from the ACL to EP and is the starting SS tonight.
Was way overmatched in the ACL is his brief time but these moves happen this time of the year to cover injuries. Saw a bit on Valentine that he is that very vocal, scrappy type that organizations like as system players. Probably gets a fuller run in the ACL next spring.

The biggest surprise in the Padres 2022 draft might have been the bonus earned by 11th-round pick Isaiah Lowe. Lowe received the sixth-biggest bonus in the Padres’ draft class, equal to a pick at the end of the fourth round. Not much about the small-town North Carolina product was in the public space, but the Padres were in on him. Making his professional debut, Lowe looked every bit deserving. After nearly being hit by the first batted ball of the game, Lowe would come back to mow through the rest of the order generating pop-ups and strikeouts. The 19-year-old completed 3.1 innings and struck out four without allowing a walk.
