Love the P approach for this draft...plus Susana (best Intl P).. this is looking really really good for the future of the Padres
Don’t forget rumored to be signing the top international player for the next signing period who catches pitchers
You talking about Ethan Salas?
Sure am!

Quote from fenn68 on July 18, 2022, 2:41 amInteresting overall draft … unlike most years only Porter of the highly ranked players has dropped to day 2. Probably many of the HS guys still may come with signing issues but from a ranking standpoint round 3 would not be shockingly low for any of them. Don’t see a major overslot signing with the rest (except Porter).
On the other hand, not that many major jumps up the board … a few but often more in the first 80 picks.

Quote from MrPadre19 on July 18, 2022, 6:22 amBig gamble for the Rangers on Rocker.
They must feel 100% confident in his shoulder.
They are counting on him contributing very soon and if he isn't productive they could really regret not taking Termarr Johnson,Elijay Green or several other great looking bats.
The kind of pick that could save....or cost, a GM their job.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on July 18, 2022, 7:33 amRocker signed already for 5.2m. The slot value was just shy of 7.6m. It's interesting since the Rangers don't pick again until the 4th round. They have to be banking on being able to land a tough sign high schooler with that extra money.

At their 4th pick … worth $560K plus the $2.4MM under for Rocker plus the non-penalty overage allowance plus any under from later picks … COULD drop something around $3-3.5MM on a pick … something in the range of the #20 pick.
Only Porter seems to fit that … the remaining un-drafted were more 2nd round types. Maybe this allows them to get one of those (assuming it is not Porter) and then get a “better” pick later in the draft … basically spread that under slot money over multiple players who dropped.
Outside chance they just did not want to spend? Maybe they were expecting someone else to fall to day two … and they got selected on day one?
Guessing it is Porter.

The folks who put list together will be challenged on projections for all the highly regarded prospects in ACL/DSL along with the new draft pieces. Then layer in the draft. That is a lot of projection vs. performance to wade through. Not all that compelled to rank the current full season players all that high (other than the top 4-5.
So, guessing Lesko and Snelling drop into the Top 10 along with a couple of the international prospects. Mazur somewhere in the top 30 just a hard call give the unknowns of the other prospects. Ranker's choice.
Maybe another draft pick makes the top 30 if he has sufficient pre-draft ranking then they just wait to see the others in 2023 before elevating them (or not).
