Yikes!

Apparently neither Darvish nor Paddack on track for the Tuesday start against LA … but  I am a bit surprised they think the Padres are going with Camarena on a call up instead of a bullpen day give the off day on Monday then again the following Sunday.

Rothschild has been let go by SD today. Ben Fritz will take over for the balance of the season.

Not sad to see this happen was really never that impressed with the hiring in the first place.

Really hope that they work something out with Balsley for a return for next season to ML coaching staff.

My off-the-wall proposal: throw 1 more bullpen-day on Tuesday... give Snell 1 more day of rest and everybody else 2 more days of rest ... especially Darvish! (or skip Darvish for 1 start entirely)

Here's what our last trip thru the rotation looks like ...

Musgrove gets an extra day of rest ... will pitch tomorrow ...

I like both moves ...

Chris Paddack (P) SD - Sep. 29
https://www.rotowire.com/baseball/player.php?id=809761

Paddack received an injection in his right elbow earlier this week and is expected to make a full recovery from a slight UCL sprain in 6-to-8 weeks, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Paddack had his elbow checked out by Dr. Keith Meister, who previously oversaw the right-hander's Tommy John surgery in 2016. Fortunately for Paddack, he was recommended to treat the elbow injury through non-surgical means this time around, setting him up for what should be a relatively normal offseason.

Does that make Paddack a better trade chip with that medical opinion? Need to trade for hitters using pitching.

It feels like we need both more hitting and more pitching ... and I think we need more pitching than more hitting ... Paddack seems like he can still get better ...

Nick Martinez's changeup

Martinez is back in the Majors for the first time since 2017 after pitching the last four seasons in Japan, and the Padres righty has some new stuff compared to his last big league go-round with the Rangers. Martinez's best pitch looks like his revamped changeup, which is slower than the one he used to throw (79.6 mph in 2022, vs. 85.5 mph in '17) and gets a lot more drop (37.8 inches in '22, vs. 29.1 inches in '17). Opponents are 0-for-9 against Martinez's changeup so far and have whiffed on 40% of their swings.
