2021 Season

Concur with Booster SD.  Mateo did not play any of the defensive positions well and had a very difficult time getting on base to use his speed.  Cost us Espinoza but the current Espinoza is far from what he was 3-4 years prior.  After trading him and Thompson, Padres still have 31 pitchers on the roster (counting all the guys on the injured list) and that does not account for Gore and possibly 2-3 other guys they may want to protect from Rule 5 draft.  Some cuts will be fairly easy but typically you don't have more than 20-21 pitchers on a 40-man roster going into arbitration - the question will be which of the injured arms to give up on plus which of the old RP's with team/mutual options to pick up.  Also, will Hudson come back into the mix if he performs like Rosenthal did last year?  At 34, less likely but I hope he gives us 2 great months.

It's just after the excitement of getting Espinoza years ago to the frustration of the TWO Tommy Johns I think we all just wanted to see the recovery come to completion and see him succeed in Padre brown.

Now it will have to be......good or bad,as A Cub.

Austin Nola raised his Average 50 points last night.

Today’s start time……3:37 pm est?

I'm the only one that thinks 3:37 or in your case 12:37 is an odd start time?

Surely there's some reason it isn't listed as 3:35 or 3:40?

Let's see if he can do it again today!

Go Austin!

Well, that was a kick in the nuts!

Melancon got worked and we probably should have lost in the 9th( Frazier and Marisnick colliding in shallow RF is what happens when a manager puts 2 new guys in the same space)

And please don't tell me they brought in Hill to face Olsen? Matt's hitting .290 against lefties.

Musgrove deserved a W today.

I never feel confident with Melancon in there. Horrible loss.

Pomeranz was doing fine, leave him in. I'm  sick of the ninth inning automatically going to the appointed closer. Fine if you've  got Mariano, Trevor, or Kimbrel, but not Melancon.

I don't  care what his stats are, Melancon will not get us through the playoff push.

Hey.....Welcome Michael!

I thought the plan all along was to rotate the Closers role but the injury to Pom and then the domination by Melancon(up until recently) I think changed that plan. But I agree rotating Pom and maybe even Hudson in might be the way to go.

But I think it also seems worse because of the "type" of Pitcher The Shark is.

If he was throwing 100mph gas and blowing a few saves here and there I don't think the confidence level in him would have hit the floor like it seems to have today.

Throwing mostly offspeed stuff and getting hit hard it just seems like he isn't the right guy....even moreso than other Closers.

At least it seems that way to me.

Melancon started faltering in mid-June and it's been up and down since then.  Pom, Hudson or Pagan could close along with Melancon.  Hard game to lose given small margin for error going down the home stretch.

I certainly hope Tingler goes with the hot hand.

And I agree with Thomas Michaels( welcome!) as well that if a guy like Pomeranz is throwing well, leave him in!

This script of a different pitcher for each inning is a bit silly.
