Part of the reason we are so far back in the loss column, especially the Giants, is that they have played 4 games less than SD. Padres only have 66 games to play and time is getting short for other teams to lose to close that gap.
current odds based on record and strength of coming schedule:
1. Making the playoffs: LAD (99.6%); SD (93.4%), SF (91.0%)
2. Winning the Division: LAD (73.4%); SD (14.2%); SF (12.4%)
So basically their analysis has the Padres catching SF but not the LAD … not even close in their view … 5-6 games behind at season end. Can one add make up that difference? Always a chance … but getting to be long odds.
Still factors yet to be included.
Obviously injuries can be critical to a team….plus something like the Bauer situation(does he pitch for LAD again this year?).
Plus the trade deadline…..who improves the most and by how much.
Wild card is what do the Giants do to improve?
Will be interesting to see these odds in a couple weeks time….
Or the LAD at the deadline. (Betting Bauer does not return this year). They should be the biggest competitor for a front line SP … they have the minor league assets and the money.

Have to admit that with only 11 days to the trade deadline … a not a lot of teams giving up on the season and the few who are don’t have a lot to sell that is game changing … not sure I see a major SP add. Probably more a useful healthy innings eater (rental type).
Maybe the focus shifts to RP(s). Not super confident in Melancon - Pagan - Pomeranz ending games for the rest of the season.
National types are still pushing a Gallo deal with Texas or a Haniger deal with Seattle (but the actually are in Wild Card striking distance so not realistic) … would like either on one hand but to get either one burn useful trade chips and probably can’t bolster their bigger need of pitching.

Add Stevenson is a bit of a head scratcher … LHH and can play all three OF slots but a 27 year old journeyman in his last option year. Not sure the difference from O’Grady or even Marcano.
No idea how they got him … IF all this is true. Would guess WASH would take a journeyman RP off the AAA roster but just a guess.
Must be an error on Roster Resource since Andrew Stevenson is still on the NATS active roster.
Plus it looks as though Knehr (already on the 40 man) is being recalled to start for the Padres tomorrow night (unless a rain out tonight).
So, Padres now have an open roster slot. Trade coming soon? Then again, maybe Cole Hamels looked good in his showcase and ????????????

Still raining here in the Atl area.May dissipate this evening so they may still get game in.I’ve decided to go to the Double Header tomorrow.
Gonna be hot but I can’t wait!
Will try to get right by the dugout…wanna see the swag chain in use often!

Edit: I see now. Thought the DH was rescheduled for today.

Hell, bring us a series sweep, GHOF!
The Braves must be ripe for picking. Losing Acuna absolutely destroys any chance they have of making a post season run, yes?

Looks like Lamet is going to be moved from starter to....long reliever?
I think he'd still be a great guy to start with, just limit him to 3, 4 innings max? I realize Snell already falls into that category but if I'm Tingler, I'm not throwing Blake on the road anymore. He's proven to be absolutely horrible.
Rotate as many guys as possible to get us to the postseason. Strahm should be up and running soon. He can give us 4 or 5 every 5th day. Diaz can go. Knehr might be able to?

No … bet the Braves go full steam ahead (at least to the trade deadline) since they are only 4.5 games behind the Mets for the NL East. Then consider DeGrom and Lindor are on the IL … probably for a lot longer than 10 days. Mets are ripe for the picking. Only PHIL in between but only 2 games ahead of ATL and also with weaknesses.

Lamet is going to be “interesting” … first he actually has to make it back then remain healthy. Not betting on either, so still seeking a more reliable option.
Similar concern on Strahm … should take some time to first get in to ML pitching shape then after no real pitching since last year … even if “healthy” … will he be effective.
Even if both are back in a month … unlikely they will be ready to go more than 2-3 innings until mid-Sept. If both are effective even then … great for the team … but still will need get bolstered for winning until that is the case.
