2021 Season
Quote from 3fingersplit on July 17, 2021, 7:21 amThat is one hell of a way to start the second half
Pham steals home on a perfect double steal
Meyers does that "SLAM DIEGO"* thing and adds another HR later
My boy Jake the Rake hits for the cycle
* SLAM DIEGO is a very real thing....This team has hit 13 Grand Slams since the beginning of last year...the most in MLB

The thing I like about Grand Slams? It means guys were on base. Been such a problem for this team in the past. So many good things happen when guys are on base. Keep it going boys!

Quote from MrPadre19 on July 17, 2021, 3:04 pmWell I’m pretty excited!
I’ll be at the game Tuesday night!
It’s been quite some time since I’ve been able to go to a Padre game.

Quote from WindsorUK on July 17, 2021, 4:36 pmHow in the world did Snell win a Cy Young? Mentally, he appears a great deal like Paddack. And his splits...what can you say? He's either a solid pitcher or a not very good pitcher.
3-3 with an ERA of 5?
I know it's only been half a season but man, Blake REALLY needs to turn it on in the second half. Otherwise, I don't see him in next year's rotation.

He won in 2018 and his command (especially of his changeup) was much better (not great just much better). Since then there has been steady erosion of command. Always had the stuff for swing and miss.
To note: he never went "deep" into games even then ... most contended that was just the TB approach but maybe not.

Quote from fenn68 on July 17, 2021, 5:18 pmEarlier there was speculation about the Padres dealing for Scherzer ... I totally discounted that ... then. However, this is now and things have changed:
- Padres starting pitching is struggling / riddled with injuries ... Padres are motivated not only to get to the Wild Card but advance ... Preller is well Preller ... so Scherzer clearly is a WANT
- Nationals are rapidly falling out of NL East / Wild Card contention .... a major portion of their ML roster will be FA (and are very old) ... not a great farm system ML ready ... Scherzer is a major trade asset and is a FA after the season ... so NATS (despite their recent comments) should be making Scherzer available
- Scherzer ... having another great season ... but is on a $42MM contract for 2021 ... plus his agent Boras wants "something" for Scherzer to waive his no trade clause.
In theory this deal makes sense for all ... but working out the money vs. prospects to create a "fair deal" has to be the real challenge. Will Washington eat some of the maybe $14-16MM remaining 2021 to get a better prospect haul (it really is a sunk cost to them and basically is buying a couple of prospects). Will the Padres be willing to take the remaining contract to keep their limited number of better prospects given they will be getting Scherzer for only 2+months and the playoffs.
Guessing the Nats would eat money for better prospects (e.g. Campusano) while the Padres would take money for a lesser set of prospects sent. Two weeks to work that out.

Quote from WindsorUK on July 17, 2021, 6:49 pmSo this extremely unusual, and possibly dangerous( for fans, players, and broadcasters!) situation is unfolding in real time, the game production team decides to continue cutting to commercials?
Maybe keeping the guys talking ( doing what they normally do) will keep them ....calm? in this unusual situation? Or certainly they could go to the broadcast team here in the studios? And get our guys out of the press box?
