Does it make any sense to send him down, somewhere, to work on his mental approach? Granted, we have no starters left at the major league level but Chris just doesn't seem tough enough to compete, night in, night out.
Watching the game … may need to work more on command than mental (needs that too). First inning he was again missing his spots by “a lot”. Not sure what goes wonky in his delivery / release but when it does … really bad.
Sort of a catch 22 … not sure that Paddack would take being optioned all that well and might even make his mental approach worse. Could go either way. If it were not for all the SP injuries (and little to call up) … would do that but as bad as he is at times he is still better than the alternative … for now.
Really only “healthy” are Paddack and Musgrove. MAYBE Snell and Darvish return effectively. Then Lamet is a real question if (when) he returns and can that be a starter. Apparently Weathers is reported to return from the IL on this road trip (hopefully) and get the 5th slot. After that … just bodies for that last spot.

Are any of our starters at AAA even possible MLB rotation guys? Even if it’s just for 2 or 3 starts?
Or are we EXTREMELY organizationally challenged in the starting pitching department?

On the 40 man … they probably would go with Camarena (currently on the 26) and Knehr (who was up and now in AAA … may have a future but not in 2021). Either would just be filler.
After that the 40 man for SP only has Lawson (IL), Espinosa (suspended), and Humphreys (ineffective in AA). Some decent prospects at the lower levels and probably not ready for prime time.
I guess if push came to shove they might take a non-roster prospect that would be added to the 40 man next winter (Rule 5 eligible) …not sure who they like.

Well Diaz is earning his way back to AAA … ugly.
Bet Paddack is upset that he did not stay in for the 6th. Only had 80 pitches and had been efficient in innings 2 through 5.
With that lead I would have kept him in for at least the 6th trying to avoid using an extra arm in the pen if Diaz was ineffective (which clearly he was).

Given Diaz, Thompson, and Norwood’s work … maybe we actually see recent draft pick Kopps in 2021. He just won the Golden Spikes Award in College ball with a dominate RP profile.

Not sure Booster. If I'm moving Gore, I'd want A LOT more years of control. And I certainly wouldn't add anything else to the pot.
Our offense HAS TO get hot at some point this year. They're too good to be this blah.
I'm more concerned about getting enough innings out of our starters. Somebody threw out Zach Davies name- I'd love to have him for the second half. Cubs are most likely sellers as well. Not sure what it would take but I'm sure Preller is enquiring.
