2021 Season

PreviousPage 59 of 114Next

We’ve gone from the most wins in the league to out of the playoffs in a weeks time.

Thank goodness the season doesn’t end today…..😉

MLBTR is reporting that Weathers is headed to the bullpen and SD will go back to a 5 man rotation of Darvish, Snell, Musgrove, Paddack, and Lamet.

With Lamets limited innings as well, wondering if that will be a piggyback situation, or will SD utilize Weathers in more of a high leverage situation?

With only Hill as a LHRP in the pen … Weathers will probably get used whenever the situation demands.

Not hearing any word on Pomeranz being close to returning … and few think Ramirez in AAA is the solution for a LHRP … so Weathers may be in the pen for a spell.

Heard even less about Strahm … and IF he eventually deemed healthy it will take month plus to get into ML game shape having not pitched since last September.

Might guess that Preller is looking for LHRP help before the trade deadline … maybe get a sleeper as they did in Hill. Not forgetting Beimel’s signing as a legit “long shot” option.

Would sure seem like they would want to take advantage of Weathers' ability to go multiple innings out of the Pen and not just have him pitch one high leverage inning.

Although, if you do cut him back to one inning stints, keeps him open for more innings towards the end of the season and playoffs. So not a bad thing to maybe limit him to or two innings max for awhil.

Better we should hope Lamet can consistently go 5-6 effectively reducing the need for someone to go "long" in a relief role. If so, Weathers, Stammen, Crismatt, Diaz can become the first in for 1-2 innings based on match-up / rest.

Another weak offensive performance …. This time at the hitter paradise that is COORS.

MAYBE the following look can be encouraging for the future part of the season … compared wRC+ for the main players in 2021 vs. their career numbers:

161 v 152: Tatis

145 v 119: Grisham

116 v 126: Pham

109 v 118: Nola

108 v 115: Cronenworth

105 v 119: Machado

99 v 109: Myers

91 v 107: Hosmer

88 v   88: Caratini

76 v.  89: Profar

Everyone except Tatis and Grisham are producing under their career offensive numbers … so, if there is some reversion to their normal the offense this summer could realistically rebound.

That was borderline embarrassing.

Thank goodness for Grisham or it would have been a Coors field shutout.

Gomber doesn't pitch this way against anyone but us.

I swear I saw 5-6 first pitch strikes "right down the middle" in the first few innings we just watched to go 0-1.

Sometimes taking pitches is a good idea...but against an average pitcher in a hitters haven you don't want to get behind right off AND

waste the best pitch you will see in that at bat.

We need offense in the worse way....stop wasting a pitch right down the middle.

I used to tell my players...."The best way to hit a curve ball is don't miss the fastball" and the mind set for a hitter has got to be on any pitch   "Yes,Yes,Yes....No"    as opposed to   "maybe,maybe,maybe....swing"  and that is the difference between a "Hitter" and a "Batter"
